Samuel Goldwyn Films has announced the casting of renowned actor and Academy Award nominee Liam Neeson in an upcoming action thriller titled The Mongoose. The studio has secured North American distribution rights, with the film scheduled to hit theaters this fall.
The storyline centers around Ryan “Fang” Flanagan (Neeson), a war hero who, after being falsely accused of a crime, finds himself with nothing to lose. He then leads a high-stakes, televised cross-country car chase as he evades authorities. The initial synopsis describes the film as “follows Ryan ‘Fang’ Flanagan, a war hero who, accused of a crime he didn’t commit and with nothing to lose, leads police on an epic televised cross-country car chase.”
In addition to Neeson, the cast includes Marisa Tomei (My Cousin Vinny), Ving Rhames (Mission: Impossible series), and Michael Chiklis (The Shield). The film is directed by Mark Vanselow, a longtime stunt double for Neeson who has collaborated with him on over 20 projects, including the Taken franchise. This project marks Neeson’s latest partnership with Samuel Goldwyn Films, following the recent release of the thriller Cold Storage.
Samuel Goldwyn Films executives Peter Goldwyn and Ben Feingold expressed their enthusiasm for the project, stating, “The Mongoose is exactly the kind of crowd-pleasing thriller that audiences want to experience on the big screen. Mark Vanselow brings an authenticity to the action that only someone who has spent decades alongside Liam could deliver. The screenplay was penned by Thompson Evans, with financing from Code Entertainment and Jupiter Peak Productions. The film’s producers include Al Corley, Bart Rosenblatt, and Eugene Musso of Code Entertainment. Executive producers are Jonathan Dana, Rich Freeman, Steven Shapiro, Liz and Ken Whitney of Jupiter Peak, and Lisa Wilson and Craig Chapman of The Solution Entertainment Group.
