Will Smith is continuing his action movie streak following the success of the Bad Boys franchise. The Oscar-winning actor is now attached to an upcoming high-octane project directed by David Gordon Green, known for films like Halloween and The Exorcist: Believer. The film has recently received updates regarding its title and key details.
Titled Supermax, the movie is a thriller centered on two FBI agents investigating a murder inside the world’s most secure prison, according to Deadline. Smith will star alongside a female FBI partner, with the actress for this role yet to be announced.
Supermax will be one of Smith’s rare recent films outside of franchise installments. Notably, the film will bypass theatrical release and premiere directly on streaming platforms. Production is scheduled to begin in mid-August.
Smith’s latest major appearance was in Bad Boys: Ride or Die, which was a significant box office success, grossing over $400 million worldwide on a $100 million budget in 2024, as reported by Box Office Mojo.
The screenplay for Supermax is written by David Weil and David J. Rosen, known for Hunters and Invasion. The film is being produced by Andrew Rona, Alex Heineman, Smith himself, and Adam Fishbach. Weil and Rosen are also serving as executive producers, alongside associate producer Natalie Laine Williams. Additional executive producers include Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Loewy, Thom Zadra, and Spencer Ela.
Director David Gordon Green, who has recently directed several successful horror films in the Halloween series, will helm Supermax. This project is set to be his most ambitious in terms of scale and budget to date. Green’s recent work includes the Amazon TV series Scarpetta.
As of now, Supermax does not have an official release date.
