A South Korean sci-fi monster film featuring prominent Hollywood talents, including X-Men star Michael Fassbender, has announced its release window. The first teaser for the upcoming thriller, which premiered amidst a stormy reception at Cannes, has been unveiled. The approximately ninety-second “Hope” teaser opens on a bleak, bloodstained street strewn with wrecked vehicles and deserted buildings. As siren-laced background music intensifies, viewers catch a glimpse of the alien creatures terrorizing a remote village in South Korea. The trailer suggests that this Korean monster movie will break free from traditional genre boundaries. The film is set to be released in Fall 2026.

The official synopsis states: “In the isolated South Korean village of Hope Harbor, police chief Bum-seok (Hwang Jung-min) and officer Sung-ae (Hoyeon) are summoned to investigate a mysterious beast causing chaos in the area. Nearby in the forest, a group of hunters, including Sung-ki (Zo In-sung), set out to track the creature but find themselves hunted instead. However, appearances can deceive, and nothing is as it seems.” It further warns, “What begins as ignorance sows the seeds of catastrophe, escalating through human conflict into a tragedy of cosmic scale.”

Directed and written by Na Hong-jin, this film marks his fourth appearance at Cannes. The cast combines renowned Korean actors with international stars. Hwang Jung-min portrays Bum-seok, Hoyeon (from Squid Game) plays Sung-ae, and Zo In-sung takes on the role of Sung-ki. The cast also includes Taylor Russell, Cameron Britton, Alicia Vikander, and Michael Fassbender. Cinematography is by Hong Kyung-pyo, with an original score composed by Michael Abels.
