Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino Reunite for ‘Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion’ Sequel

Lisa Kudrow’s beloved film from the late 1990s is making a comeback. The news has been confirmed with recent set photos showing Kudrow alongside fellow acclaimed actress Mira Sorvino. The iconic 1997 comedy, Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion, is officially getting a sequel, reports The Hollywood Reporter.

Production for Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion 2 is underway, as evidenced by a social media post from 20th Century Studios featuring a behind-the-scenes shot. Filming began last Friday, with Tim Federle (known for High School Musical: The Musical: The Series) directing the project. Federle previously collaborated with Kudrow on the 2022 film Better Nate Than Never, where she had a supporting role.

The screenplay for the sequel is penned by Robin Schiff, who also wrote the original film and is known for her work on Netflix’s Emily in Paris. Unlike the first movie, which was released in theaters, the sequel will bypass theatrical release and premiere directly on streaming platforms as a Hulu Original, available on Hulu and Disney+.

Returning cast members include Lisa Kudrow, Mira Sorvino, Janeane Garofalo as Heather, Alan Cumming as Sandy Frink, Camryn Manheim as Toby, and Julia Campbell as Christie. New additions to the cast feature Keegan-Michael Key, Rob Huebel, Breckin Meyer, Patrick Warburton, and Nathan Lee Graham, though their roles remain undisclosed.
The original film was a modest box office success, grossing approximately $29 million, and holds a respectable 76% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Over time, it gained a cult following and is now accessible for streaming on Hulu.

As of now, an official release date for Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion 2 has not been announced.
