Ben Stiller has announced that he is developing a multi-part documentary series exploring the rich history and cultural significance of the New York Knicks, culminating in their recent NBA Championship victory. The project is a collaboration between Stiller, the NBA, HBO, and A24.
The series aims to chronicle the Knicks’ journey through the decades, highlighting their legacy and the moments that have defined the franchise. It will culminate with the team’s first NBA title in 53 years, celebrating a historic milestone for the iconic New York team.
Stiller shared his excitement on X (formerly Twitter), posting, “Couldn’t be more excited to make this doc with @a24 and @hbo about the NY KNICKS!!!!” He also added the hashtag #LETSGOKNICKS.
In a recent appearance on Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart’s “Roommates” podcast, Stiller revealed that he’s been capturing footage on his phone and is committed to telling the story of all eras of the Knicks. “This team obviously, there’s a culmination here, of something that’s been going on for a long time,” he explained. Stiller mentioned plans to film more during the upcoming season and hopes to interview players, including reaching out to Brunson and Hart for additional insights. “It’s going to be over the next year that we’ll be working on it,” he said, highlighting the project’s long-term scope.
Directed by Stiller and produced in partnership with A24, the series will trace the franchise’s journey from the 1990s to their record-breaking recent run that brought a championship back to New York. According to A24, the documentary will feature “unprecedented NBA access, never-before-seen footage, and a definitive look at one of basketball’s most iconic stories.”
