It has been officially announced that the beloved Are We There Yet? franchise will return with a new installment after more than twenty years. Ice Cube and actress Nia Long are set to reprise their roles in the upcoming film, titled Are They Gone Yet?, which is a sequel to their 2007 film Are We Done Yet?, reports Deadline.
The new movie will follow the comedic adventures of Nick and Suzanne, played by Cube and Long. This time, the story focuses on Nick facing one of his biggest challenges yet—dealing with his grandkids. Currently in the early stages of development, Are They Gone Yet? is being penned by writers Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana.
Reflecting on the franchise’s return, Cube shared, “We built something special with this series. Audiences grew up with Nick, and now he’s got grandkids. Time really does fly.” He also expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration: “Partnering with Skydance to bring this story to a new generation aligns perfectly with CubeVision’s mission, and I’m excited about this new partnership.”
In addition to the movies, the franchise was adapted into a sitcom that aired from 2010 to 2013, starring Terry Crews and Essence Atkins.
As for Are They Gone Yet?, it is produced by Ice Cube, Todd Garner, and Jeff Kwatinetz, with Ben Hurwitz and Lauren Gennawey serving as executive producers. An official release date has yet to be announced.
