Universal Pictures has announced their upcoming animated feature, Not Alone, produced by Illumination, set to hit theaters on April 16, 2027. The film was officially revealed during the Annecy Film Festival in France, replacing the previously scheduled Untitled Illumination Event Film.
This marks Timothée Chalamet’s first-ever foray into a full-length animated project. The four-time Oscar nominee will portray Joe, an introverted rocket mechanic leading a quiet life. Joining him is Emmy and Grammy nominee Selena Gomez as Fran, a talented astro-botanist working on developing the world’s first plant-fueled rocket.
The story revolves around Joe and Fran, who are brought together to prepare for the launch of this groundbreaking spacecraft. Sparks fly between them, though neither is particularly skilled in romance. Their lives are further complicated when three tiny, mischievous, and adorable aliens—Dunk, Welly, and Shirm—take refuge in Joe’s home. The aliens are fleeing from Zandro, an overzealous and inept law enforcement officer. The extraterrestrials believe that Fran’s innovative rocket might be their ticket back home, leading to a series of interstellar adventures.
The cast also features notable voices from Rob Brydon, Diane Morgan, Jamie Demetriou, Brett Goldstein, Allison Janney, and Lamorne Morris, adding to the film’s star-studded lineup.
