When searching “toxic moms” on Google, the top suggested query is “toxic moms Ashley Tisdale.” The actress and singer, known for her role in High School Musical, is leveraging this viral association by developing a comedy series titled Toxic Moms, which is now in the works at Netflix.

Expected to star Tisdale, the project is a collaboration with Sabrina Jalees (known for Mating Season and Search Party) and Ali Wong (star of Always Be My Maybe and Beef). The series, written by Jalees, is a dark half-hour comedy that follows a sleep-deprived new mother drawn into a clique of wealthy, trendy moms. As the story unfolds, the series explores the darker side of this group, posing the question: in the loneliness of motherhood, how far would one go to find a sense of community? Tisdale, Jalees, and Wong are serving as executive producers, with Wong potentially directing if the show moves forward to series.

Tisdale shared on Instagram, alongside images of Deadline’s story, “I guess we all can be a little toxic,” hinting at the series’ themes. Inspired by her own experiences as a mother of two, Toxic Moms is based on an original idea and reflects her personal insights.

The project gained additional attention after Tisdale published a viral essay titled Breaking Up with My Toxic Mom Group in January through The Cut. The piece sparked widespread online speculation about the identities of certain celebrities involved in the mysterious mom group she mentioned.

Toxic Moms aims to join a growing lineup of Netflix comedies centered around strong female leads, including Running Point, Nobody Wants This, Survival of the Thickest, and North of North.
