Sony Pictures is poised to make a bold move with its latest project, a fresh retelling of the classic Sleepy Hollow story starring Sydney Sweeney. The studio has acquired the rights to Lindsey Anderson Beer’s debut novel, “Hollow,” which serves as the foundation for this new adaptation. Beer will oversee the project as director, producer, and screenwriter, with her production companies LuckyChap and Honey Trap also involved.
Breaking the news first, Deadline reported last month that the novel will be published by Putnam, an imprint of Penguin Random House, in fall 2027. Industry insiders reveal that Sony acted quickly and aggressively to secure the star for the project in a competitive bidding situation. “Hollow” marks Honey Trap’s first film production, a newly launched company with Kaylee McGregor as President of Production and Development. Honey Trap recently signed a first-look deal with Sony Pictures.
The novel offers a modern, reimagined take on “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” told from the perspective of Katrina Van Tassel. Instead of being portrayed as a mere romantic prize, Van Tassel is recast as a central figure embroiled in a dangerous mystery and a seductive supernatural love triangle. The story combines gothic elements, psychological suspense, and erotic thriller themes, creating a contemporary, high-concept reinvention of the beloved story.
