A sequel to How the Grinch Stole Christmas is reportedly in the works, fueling excitement among fans eager to see which original cast members will reprise their roles in The Grinch 2. Among the stars from the beloved 2000 holiday film, actress Taylor Momsen, who portrayed the adorable Cindy Lou Who as a child, has shared her thoughts on the possibility of returning.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, Momsen was asked whether she would consider reprising her role. While she didn’t give a definitive answer, she also didn’t dismiss the idea. “I’ll stick with my phrase of the day: life is weird. So, you never know,” she said.
Momsen reflected on how much the movie still means to her, even years later. She discussed how releasing her band The Pretty Reckless Christmas album last year helped her embrace all facets of her career, including her childhood role as Cindy Lou Who.
“It kind of came full circle for me last Christmas when we released The Pretty Reckless Christmas. It was my way of accepting all aspects of my life and bringing them into my future, realizing what a huge impact that whole experience had on me as a person,” she shared. “It was nothing but positive. So when something means that much to you, nothing’s really off the table,” Momsen added.
Although Universal Pictures has yet to officially announce a release date for the sequel, reports suggest that original director Ron Howard is set to return, with Jim Carrey attached to reprise his iconic role as the Grinch more than twenty years after the original film.
With Momsen’s recent comments, the possibility of Cindy Lou Who’s return remains open. While she hasn’t confirmed her involvement in the sequel, she made it clear she would consider coming back if asked. Whether the filmmakers decide to bring back the original actress or recast the role, fans will have to wait and see as the project develops.
