Netflix has unveiled several first-look photos from its upcoming limited series East of Eden, offering a glimpse at the highly anticipated adaptation of John Steinbeck’s classic 1952 novel. The series, adapted by Zoe Kazan and starring and executive produced by Florence Pugh, is set to premiere October 1, nearly four years after the project was first announced.

A contemporary reimagining of Steinbeck’s novel, East of Eden follows the Trask family across multiple generations, while placing a renewed focus on Cathy Ames, the story’s complex and unforgettable antihero, portrayed by Pugh.

The ensemble cast includes Tracy Letts as Cyrus Trask, Martha Plimpton as Faye, Ciarán Hinds as Samuel Hamilton, Joseph Zada as Cal Trask, Joe Anders as Aron Trask, Christopher Abbott as Adam Trask, Mike Faist as Charles Trask, and Hoon Lee as Lee.

Filmed across several locations in New Zealand, the series is produced by Fifth Season and Anonymous Content.

Kazan wrote the screen adaptation and serves as co-showrunner alongside Jeb Stuart. The project also marks a notable connection to her family history: the novel was previously adapted into the 1955 film directed by her grandfather, Elia Kazan.

Executive producers include Kazan, Stuart and Pugh, along with Garth Davis, who directs the first four episodes; Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, who helms episodes five through seven; and Antoine Douiahy, Zack Hayden, Steve Golin, David Levine and Jill Arthur.
