Halle Berry (Monster’s Ball), Colin Firth (The King’s Speech), Emmy nominee Zoë Kravitz (The Studio), and British Comedy Award winner Jack Whitehall (The ‘Burbs) are joining forces for the upcoming romantic comedy Otherwise Engaged.
The film will be directed by Suzanne Farwell, a longtime producer and collaborator of Nancy Meyers. Farwell also co-wrote the screenplay with Gabriel Mizrahi.
Otherwise Engaged centers on Charlie, played by Whitehall, who is preparing to marry the love of his life, Gabby (Kravitz). However, his plans take an unexpected turn when his estranged father, a disgraced business tycoon recently released from prison, suddenly arrives at their doorstep.
Things become even more complicated when Charlie’s father (Firth) develops feelings for Gabby’s fiercely independent mother (Berry). Their surprising romance threatens to derail Charlie and Gabby’s wedding plans, turning what should be their happiest celebration into a potential family disaster.
Production is scheduled to begin in March 2027 in New York.
Mister Smith Entertainment is handling international sales and will introduce the project to buyers during the upcoming TIFF Market, while CAA Media Finance is overseeing U.S. rights.
Farwell expressed her enthusiasm for the project, highlighting her passion for relationship-driven comedies that combine humor with emotional depth. After spending much of her career helping bring sophisticated romantic comedies to audiences, she said she is excited to make Otherwise Engaged her directorial project in the genre.
She also praised the film’s cast and creative team, saying she looks forward to bringing the story to life and presenting the project to the international marketplace at TIFF.
