David Corenswet may be best known for playing the Man of Steel, but his latest role puts him in a very different kind of story — one centered on an unlikely hero who refuses to give up.
Paramount and Skydance Sports unveiled the trailer Sunday for Mr. Irrelevant, the upcoming biographical sports drama directed by Jonathan Levine. The film is set to premiere on Christmas and follows the final months of New York Giants running back John Tuggle, who died from cancer in 1986 at just 25 years old.
Tuggle entered the NFL as the final selection of the final round of the 1983 draft, earning him the nickname “Mr. Irrelevant.” Despite being considered an afterthought, he went on to challenge expectations both on and off the field.
The film chronicles Tuggle’s journey as he earns the respect of his first-year head coach, Bill Parcells, played by Michael Shannon, while also navigating a new romance with a character portrayed by Isabel May. Through his determination and resilience, Tuggle demonstrates how hope and perseverance can overcome even the most difficult circumstances.
Written by Nick Santora, Mr. Irrelevant also features David Krumholtz, Tuwaine Barrett, Thaddeus LaGrone, Alexander England, Spencer House and Tandi Wright.
With Corenswet stepping away from his superhero persona for a deeply personal sports story, Mr. Irrelevant looks poised to deliver an emotional portrait of an athlete who proved that being overlooked doesn’t mean being forgotten.
