Brie Larson is heading to the Amalfi Coast for her next major feature, with the Oscar-winning actress set to star in and executive produce Paramount Pictures’ upcoming adaptation of Rebecca Serle’s bestselling novel One Italian Summer.
Larson will take on the role of Katy Silver, a young woman who travels to Italy following a devastating loss. What begins as a long-awaited trip to the Amalfi Coast gradually becomes something far more extraordinary, giving Katy an unexpected chance to reconnect with her mother and see her in an entirely different light.
The story explores grief, family, love and self-discovery, with the picturesque Italian setting providing the backdrop for Katy’s emotional journey.
Harry Bradbeer, best known for directing Fleabag and Netflix’s Enola Holmes films, is attached to direct the feature. Flora Greeson, who previously wrote The High Note and the upcoming The Princess Diaries 3, is adapting Serle’s novel for the big screen.
Serle will also executive produce alongside Larson and David Stone, with Temple Hill Entertainment behind the production.
Paramount has already set One Italian Summer for a theatrical release on May 12, 2028, positioning the film for Mother’s Day weekend. It is currently scheduled to arrive on the same day as the next instalment in New Line’s Final Destination franchise.
The film adds another intriguing project to Larson’s increasingly varied slate. Following her acclaimed performance in Apple TV+’s Lessons in Chemistry, Larson has continued balancing major franchise work with more character-driven projects. She is also set to appear in upcoming titles including FX’s Cry Wolf, Amazon MGM’s Close Personal Friends and Sony’s Skeletons. Larson additionally voices Rosalina in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
For Bradbeer, One Italian Summer marks another feature following his work on the Enola Holmes franchise. His television credits also include Killing Eve, Ramy and Spider-Noir, while his upcoming projects include Netflix’s A Matter of Time, starring Ben Stiller and Nicholas Galitzine.
With Larson leading a story built around grief, motherhood and an unexpected supernatural element, One Italian Summer could offer the actress an opportunity to explore a more intimate and emotionally focused role.
The film is currently scheduled to arrive in cinemas on May 12, 2028.
