The world of Bridgerton is set to expand once again, with Netflix officially ordering a new limited series centred on a younger Lady Violet Bridgerton and her romance with Viscount Edmund Bridgerton. The upcoming prequel will explore the love story that helped shape one of the franchise’s most beloved families.

The currently untitled series will be developed by Shondaland, with Bridgerton creator Shonda Rhimes returning to write, serve as showrunner and executive produce alongside Nicholas Nardini. Tom Verica, who directed and executive produced Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, will also return to direct and executive produce the new project, while Betsy Beers will executive produce for Shondaland.

According to Netflix, the series will chronicle the early life of Violet and her romance with Edmund, offering viewers a closer look at the relationship that laid the foundations for the Bridgerton family.

In the main series, Violet is portrayed by Ruth Gemmell as the devoted mother of eight children. Her enduring love for Edmund, who died before the events of the original series, has remained an important part of her character. The prequel will give audiences the opportunity to discover how their relationship began and what made their marriage so significant.

Fans were previously introduced to a younger version of Violet in the 2023 prequel Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, where Connie Jenkins-Greig portrayed the character. However, Netflix has yet to announce the cast for the new series, leaving it unclear whether Jenkins-Greig will reprise the role.

The announcement continues Netflix’s expansion of the Bridgerton universe beyond the romantic stories of the eight Bridgerton siblings. Queen Charlotte proved that audiences were eager to explore the histories of established characters, with the series examining the relationship between Queen Charlotte and King George III.

The upcoming Violet-focused project will offer a different perspective on the franchise, shifting attention to the woman whose guidance and unwavering belief in love have helped define the Bridgerton family.

Meanwhile, the flagship series is also moving forward. Bridgerton Season 5 is in production in London and will centre on Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, and Michaela Stirling, portrayed by Masali Baduza. The season is expected to arrive in 2027, with a sixth season already confirmed.

For now, Netflix has not announced a release date or additional casting details for the Lady Violet prequel. Nevertheless, the project promises to give fans a deeper understanding of the family matriarch and the romance that started it all.
