Sony Pictures Acquires Film Rights to Bestselling Comic Series ‘D’Orc’

Sony Pictures has acquired the live-action film rights to D’Orc, the bestselling comic book series created by writer and illustrator Brett Bean, who will also adapt the property for the big screen.

While plot details for the upcoming film remain under wraps, the D’Orc comic series blends swashbuckling humor, expansive magical mythology, and a host of fantastical creatures in a gritty, action-packed fantasy adventure.

Published by Image Comics, D’Orc debuted earlier this year and quickly gained popularity among readers. The first issue sold out before its official release and has since reached its eighth printing, while subsequent issues have also received multiple printings.

Beyond D’Orc, Bean is known for creating the graphic novel series Zoo Patrol Squad and the children’s book series Muk ’n’ Honey. His illustration credits include the Dungeon Crawler Carl comic series, puppet designs for Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, and Marvel’s Rocket and Groot comic series.

Bean is represented by ChengCaplan Company, InkWell Management, and Alexander Lawrence.
