Disney+ is expanding its lineup of Japanese supernatural horror content with Night Tales Club, a new six-episode series set to premiere in January 2027. The show’s latest trailer offers a first look at its unsettling mysteries and confirms its release window for next year.
Based on a collection of short horror stories by Ichi Sawamura, Night Tales Club follows Zenichi Hojo, a successful businessman fascinated by the inexplicable. Driven by a desire to uncover the truth behind life’s greatest mysteries, Hojo investigates strange phenomena known as “bugs,” setting the stage for a series of disturbing and supernatural encounters.
The newly released trailer begins with shots of a warehouse-like location as the city’s lights suddenly go dark. A man’s desperate screams soon fill the scene before viewers are introduced to Hojo. In another sequence, Hojo records a video announcing a reward of 20 million yen in gold for anyone capable of providing credible, verifiable evidence of these mysterious anomalies.
However, claiming the reward comes with three strict requirements. Reports must contain verified facts without any falsehoods, involve an actual victim, and include unique physical evidence to support the claim.
The upcoming series will feature six standalone episodes, each exploring a different horror story while Takayuki Yamada portrays Hojo throughout the season. This anthology-style format promises a variety of supernatural mysteries, with each installment presenting its own unsettling scenario.
The series boasts an extensive directing lineup, including Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Takashi Shimizu, Shinzo Katayama, Yukiko Sode, Yuichiro Sakashita, Yosuke Nakamura, and Kenji Nakajima. Yusuke Wakabayashi and Teruhisa Yamamoto are serving as producers, while Sawamura, the author of the original stories, is credited as the screenwriter.
Although Disney+ has confirmed that Night Tales Club will arrive in January 2027, the platform has yet to announce an exact premiere date. With its mysterious premise, supernatural investigations, and collection of standalone horror stories, the series is shaping up to be an intriguing addition to Disney+’s Japanese programming.
