Chloë Levine is set to star in Your Heart Is a Hummingbird, an upcoming independent drama written and directed by filmmaker SM Goldberger. The semi-autobiographical feature explores identity, family relationships and the challenges of reconciling two very different sides of life.
Levine will portray Rebekah Rosenberg, a successful adult film performer known professionally as Bex Bacall. When Rebekah learns that her mother has been diagnosed with cancer, the carefully separated worlds she has built begin to collide, forcing her to confront her past and reconsider the woman she wants to become.
Currently filming in Los Angeles, the project draws on Goldberger’s personal experiences in the adult entertainment industry, bringing an intimate perspective to a story centred on the complexities of personal identity and family.
Goldberger developed the screenplay through the 2024 Antigravity Academy Screenwriters Camp. The filmmaker has more than a decade of experience in the adult entertainment industry and has earned recognition for her work behind the camera. She has also served as an industry consultant on films including Pleasure and Sean Baker’s Red Rocket, bringing her professional experience and knowledge of the industry to the project.
Speaking about Levine’s casting, Goldberger highlighted the challenge of finding the right actor for such a layered central character, noting that Rebekah is someone who keeps much of herself hidden.
Levine is known for her performances in Netflix’s The OA and Trinkets, as well as her recurring role in Marvel’s The Defenders. Her recent work includes the psychological thriller An Innocent Girl, starring Kerry Washington and Colman Domingo, while her upcoming projects include F.A.S.T., written by Taylor Sheridan, and the independent drama Divine Blood.
Winsor Yuan, Chelsea Davenport and Kimberly Hwang are producing Your Heart Is a Hummingbird. With its personal foundations and focus on the complicated intersection of family and professional identity, the film aims to offer a character-driven exploration of a woman navigating a significant turning point in her life.
A release date for Your Heart Is a Hummingbird has not yet been announced.
