Madison Bailey Dives Into ’90s Sun-Soaked Noir in ‘SoCal’

Madison Bailey is trading the Outer Banks for Southern California.

The Outer Banks star has signed on to lead SoCal, a 1990s neo-noir written and directed by Cameron Van Hoy. The film is set in San Diego during the summer of 1999 and follows Ramona, a sharp, resourceful high school pot dealer played by Bailey. When the school’s star quarterback hires her to find his missing girlfriend, Ashley Walker, Ramona starts peeling back the perfect suburban surface—and what begins as a missing-person job quickly turns into a tangled mess of desire, secrets, and murder.

Van Hoy described the project as “inspired by the reckless abandon of youth, San Diego at the turn of the millennium and noir cinema.” He called it “a sun-soaked neo-noir where first love, desire and high school collide.”

The film is being produced by Ardor Pictures, Ferrari Films, Live Nation Studios, Gulfstream Pictures, and Luber Roklin Entertainment, with Van Hoy directing from his own script.

Bailey, best known as Kiara “Kie” Carrera across five seasons of Outer Banks, has also appeared in Black Lightning, American Horror Stories, and Maintenance Required. Van Hoy’s previous work includes the crime thriller Flinch and the upcoming addiction drama The Prince, which features Nicolas Cage and J.K. Simmons.

Expect neon nights, palm-tree shadows, and pure late-’90s heat.
