Netflix has unveiled the official trailer for Trinity, an upcoming political thriller starring Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Richard Madden. The new series promises a tense story of military secrets, political intrigue and a conspiracy that could threaten national security.

Set to premiere on December 1, 2026, the series comes from acclaimed British writer Jed Mercurio, the creative force behind hit dramas including Line of Duty, Bodyguard and Bodies.

In Trinity, Mbatha-Raw stars as Commander Katherine Decker, the second-in-command aboard the USS Kansas, a nuclear submarine. Madden plays Webb Preston, the charismatic Secretary of Defense whose apparent authority and influence conceal a potentially dangerous secret.

The newly released trailer introduces viewers to a high-stakes military situation in the Southern Ocean, where a catastrophic mistake involving a tactical nuclear weapon was narrowly avoided. However, as Decker begins to reveal what happened, questions emerge about the operation itself, including the unsettling revelation that the supposed hostile forces may never have existed.

As the investigation deepens, Decker finds herself caught between her professional responsibilities and a growing web of secrets. Preston initially appears willing to support her, but the trailer raises doubts about where his true loyalties lie.

The tension escalates when a masked interrogator demands to know what Decker knows about Trinity. With powerful figures potentially involved in a conspiracy reaching into the highest levels of government, the commander must navigate a dangerous situation where trusting the wrong person could have devastating consequences.

The series’ official synopsis describes a naval officer who becomes involved with a seemingly charismatic Secretary of Defense, only to discover that he may be connected to a dangerous conspiracy. The premise sets the stage for a story exploring the intersection of military power, political influence and the consequences of concealed truths.

Joining Mbatha-Raw and Madden in the cast are Marcia Gay Harden, JD Pardo, James Remar and Robert Wisdom, among others.

With Mercurio behind the project, Trinity brings together an experienced creative voice in political and procedural thrillers with two leading performers taking on characters at the centre of a potentially explosive mystery.

Trinity premieres on Netflix on December 1, 2026.
