Toni Collette to Lead Apple’s New Dark Comedy-Drama Series ‘Lenni’

Toni Collette is set to return to television in Apple’s latest comedy-drama, Lenni, a new series inspired by the hit Norwegian show Pernille (also known as Pørni).

The series has been greenlit by Apple and will be produced by Made Up Stories, the production company behind Nine Perfect Strangers, in partnership with Keshet International, known for Homeland.

Collette, best known for her performances in Hereditary and The Sixth Sense, will star as Lenni, a divorced mother of two who works in child welfare. While she spends her days helping other families navigate difficult circumstances, her own home life is anything but straightforward.

Following a devastating family tragedy, Lenni struggles to keep her loved ones safe from life’s unpredictable challenges. The series promises a blend of dark humour, family drama and mystery, exploring the complexities of love, loss and the meaning of family.

The ensemble cast also includes Ciarán Hinds, Dan Wyllie, Josh McKenzie, Celeste Barber, Genevieve Hegney, Arka Das and Wayne Blair.

Lenni is based on the Norwegian series Pernille, created by Henriette Steenstrup. The original show ran for five seasons between 2021 and 2025, with its first three seasons released on Viaplay before moving to Netflix for its final two.

Directing duties are being handled by Dearbhla Walsh, known for her work on Bad Sisters, while Sarah Scheller (Strife) has adapted the series for an Australian audience.

Production is currently underway in Sydney, with support from Screen NSW’s Made in NSW Fund.

With Collette leading a talented cast, Lenni looks set to deliver a compelling mix of sharp comedy and emotional storytelling, offering a fresh take on the challenges of family life.
