Fifth Harmony’s New Single “Down” Dominating The Charts

With the departure of Camilia Cabello last year from the group, Fifth Harmony have shown no signs of slowing down, releasing there brand new hot single “Down” featuring rapper Gucci Mane. The girl group, now consisting of Ally Brooke Hernandez, Dinah Jane, Lauren Jauregui and Normani Kordei released the single June 1st where it debuted at number 2 on the ITune charts. Cabello left the group this past December due to the direction the group was heading. She’s since released her own single as a solo artist which created a lot of buzz online. “We represented all different kinds of women coming together. We didn’t write our records,” Cabello said in an interview. “We were interpreting somebody else’s story. Fifth Harmony is an entity or identity outside all of us, and I don’t think anybody felt individually represented by the sound — we didn’t make it.”

But as far as Fifth Harmony go, they will be releasing new music by the end of the year and a new album on the way although it has no release date as of yet. Normani Kordei explained in an interview about the direction of the group without Cabello stating “We’re not the same people we were a year ago. We’re not even the same people we were two months ago. You’ll hear our growth and maturity reflected in the music we’re creating. We’ve been working really hard. And this is the first time personally that I’ve vibed out and turned on Fifth Harmony on my own because I love the songs so much. We’ve literally been vibing out to our own album.”

The release of “Down” was celebrated by the girls as they took to the stage at Good Morning America and brought along friends Gucci Mane and Ty Dolla $ign. In an interview in between performances 5H member Dinah Jane gave a little more insight into the new album saying they’ve been working with the likes of producers Skrillex and Pooh Bear, and that the album is “Everything to us…”.

Not only is this single catchy but it’s driven by some great production that reminds me of a Diplo sound, a sound that if mixed with pop is quite apparent to Justin Bieber’s newly developed sound. This leaves the door open for harmonizers to highly anticipate there forthcoming album, and I’m hoping it’s on par if not better then there last LP. The girls definitely have a lot to prove more so the fact that Cabello’s departure wasn’t damaging to the groups success. Expect to hear this song on a radio station near you in no time at all, and it’s a great start for the groups new direction. “Down” is out now.
