Jeremy Zucker & Chelsea Cutler’s Captivating EP ‘brent’

After the incredible reception of the single “you were good to me” by fans, it’s no surprise that Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler created a chemistry that people we’re drawn to. The two met in Connecticut years ago, and they recently created a joint EP entitled “brent”. The EP showcases not only their stunning vocals but also the musicians incredible gifts to create a collection of breath taking songs.

The five-track collaborative EP finds the duo reflecting on relationships in a melancholic vibe. Each track brings a different pain and emotion to life, with an engaging and heartfelt tone. The EP opens with the first single “you were good to me,” It explores a breakup that left both of them wrecked in an heart-wrenching situation, set up perfectly with the emotive pianos and sorrowful vocals from Zucker and Cutler, it’s a flawless introduction to such an endearing EP.

“Please” continues the love/loss storyline, with the duo displaying heartbreak and dealing with confusion and desperation. Layered with the passionate vocals of Cutler along with the strumming of what sounds like a ukulele and acoustic guitar. It details a faulty relationship that has been falling apart, but they are deeply attached to one another.

“sometimes” is a Cutler only featured track, it reflects on the lingering feelings that follow’s a rocky relationship. The heartfelt pianos in this solo ballad perfectly complement Cutler’s voice, and the pop instrumental through the chorus gives this song an extra emotional punch. “hello old friend” is a more pop dynamic tune with deep bass lines and heavier pop electronics, while still managing to deliver a message about the value we place on the most intense experiences we’ve been through.

“Scared” rounds out this EP with Zucker going solo. It details his fears on how he’s slowly overcoming his anxieties. It’s a song that’s relatable to almost everyone, and puts the perfect finishing touches to such an emotive record. Both Zucker and Cutler might not be household names to most music enthusiasts, but this EP is an interesting collaborative project from two incredibly talented artists that have creatinly proved they can hold their own. The movement of this album is a story from beginning to end, and ‘brent’ has been cleverly crafted by the poetic minds of two gifted musicians.

On brent, Jeremy Zucker and Chelsea Cutler shared,

“One week in December, we drove out of NYC to a recording studio built in an old, converted carriage house in Connecticut. We slept on couches and air mattresses and wrote a bunch of songs. At the end of the week, we had ‘brent.’ That cabin held a certain kind of quiet–one punctuated with existential conversations, impromptu jam sessions, and early 2000s rom coms. Think of this project as a time capsule, a diary of the process that resulted in one of the most fulfilling musical journeys in either of our lives. These songs kept us warm in the deep snow of December. We hope they can do the same for you.”
