Dua Lipa – “Cool”: I first listened to Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia, on a day when everyone was scared to breathe. The song “Cool” was definitely the highlight for me, with a collection of tracks that are a flash of sonic neon. Worth listening to if you are fans of pop music.
Niall Horan – “No Judgement”: Ex 1D member Niall Horan has dropped a second album, Heartbreak Weather. An infectious album that combines pop and a tad bit of rock. The standout track has to be “No Judgement”. Heartbreak Weather follows his 2017 debut Flicker.
“When I listen to albums, I like to listen to them start to finish,” Horan said of the record. “With Heartbreak Weather, I wanted to tell the story that was in my head, hopefully lead people down the storytelling lane of an album track listing versus just ‘I’m gonna skip to the next one.’ I wanted to write songs from different sides or from someone else looking in.”
Camila Cabello – “Dream Of You”: “Dream of You” is the ninth track from Camila Cabello’s sophomore studio album, Romance, released on December 6, 2019. Written by Cabello with Robin Fredriksson, Justin Tranter and Mattias Larsson, and produced by the latter, the song is about loving somebody no matter what. Camila first teased “Dream of You” on January 31, 2019, by tweeting the first line of the song’s bridge. Months later, on April 18, 2019, she teased the chorus line via her Instagram stories. Then, in the final minute of the music video for “Liar”, Camila is shown reading a note with the lines “All I do the whole day through is dream of you”.
Hailee Steinfeld – “I Love You’s”: Hailee Steinfeld has released a new single, “I Love You’s,” inspired by Annie Lennox’s 1995 song “No More ‘I Love You’s.” The track is the lead single from Steinfeld’s forthcoming two-part project. The five-track first part, which will include “I Love You’s” as well as her recent single “Wrong Direction,” will arrive May 1st. The project’s title and additional details are set to be revealed soon.
“After going through a breakup, I decided I needed time to focus on myself and heal without the distractions of another relationship,” Steinfeld said in a statement. “There’s something really empowering about deciding what’s best for you and putting yourself first. That’s what this record is about.”
Halsey – “Finally”: “Finally // Beautiful Stranger” is a song by American singer Halsey. It was released on December 6, 2019 through Capitol Records as the fourth single from her third studio album, Manic (2020). Halsey described both songs as “very different […] very dreamy stories.” She recently revealed in an interview with Zane Lowe for Beats 1 that she wrote it at home in her living room at “two in the morning when I was dating Dom [YUNGBLUD]”, thinking about the night that they met, written with just her voice and a guitar at first. She said that, after listening, her friends described it as “the best song I’d ever written”
Holly Humberstone – “Falling Asleep At The Wheel”: After making waves earlier this year with “Deep End,” artist Holly Humberstone released a follow-up entitled “Falling Asleep At The Wheel”. By the end of its first week, the track had amassed over 500,000 Spotify streams. The song’s worldwide Spotify count stood at 525,335 by the end of Wednesday, March 25.
Jessica Mauboy – “Honest”: This song is an oldy but a goody. Written and produced by Brian Kennedy for BK Music, this was one of the best songs off Jessica’s album “Beautiful”.
Little Mix – “Break Up Song”: Little Mix ushered in the start of a new era with the release of “Break Up Song”. On the ’80s-inspired anthem, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jade Thrilwall and Perrie Edwards celebrate their independence after ditching the deadbeat men in their lives. Co-written by Pinnock, Thirlwall and Edwards, “Break Up Song” is the veteran girl group’s first release since 2019’s “Bounce Back” and their recent holiday single “One I’ve Been Missing.”
Max George – “Hate You”: Max George continues to surprise me with his solo output, with new single Hate You being a perfect example of this. The track is George’s latest solo release following: Barcelona, Better On Me, Till I Met You, and That’s Not Me. The track shifts the temp from the singer’s previous releases – especially the heartfelt Diane Warren penned ballad That’s Not Me.
Walk Off The Earth – “Nicknames (feat. gnash)”: Juno Award-winning multi-platinum Canadian pop band Walk Off the Earth has teamed up with the multi-platinum singer-songwriter and producer gnash for their new single “Nicknames.” “Nicknames” follows Walk Off the Earth’s critically acclaimed hit single “I’ll Be There,” which has surpassed 25 million streams worldwide and remained on the Hot AC radio charts in U.S. and Canada for 20 consecutive weeks hitting No. 25 and No. 8 respectively.
On their new single, Walk Off the Earth shares, “We’ve all been in that relationship where you and your ex share the same social circle. Running into them at a bar, a friend’s house, etc. It’s an awkward and confusing time and it brings back so many mixed feelings. We wanted to write a song that captured those emotions.”
The Chainsmokers – “Kills You Slowly”: Love is a battlefield, or maybe it’s a trap. It’s definitely set to a half-time rhythm and some banging’ 808s on The Chainsmokers’ pop anthem “Kills You Slowly.” It’s a slow jam for all those moments you know a relationship is burning to ashes, but you’re not yet ready to turn from the blaze.
