INsiders Guide: Eighty8, 12AM, Korky Buchek, Gal Musette, Crimson Calamity….

Cash Money Records’ newest artist Eighty8 makes his debut with the new single “Hit.”
“Hit” coats 808s with rowdy horns as the beat bumps and grooves. Eighty8 seamlessly switches up his flow from gruff bars to a chantable chorus. The track illuminates his dynamic and diverse sound, integrating hip-hop and R&B vibes with style and substance.
The Miami native draws on his Jamaican and Haitian heritage to translate emotional extremes into an unpredictable and undeniable hybrid of R&B, hip-hop, pop, and island flavors. At three-years-old, he realized he could sing and spent hours replaying an old Michael Jackson VHS as he obsessively studied the King of Pop. After grinding for years, he caught the attention of Balistic Beats and dropped the single “Pree.” The song lit up local radio and amassed 1.6 million Spotify streams. On its heels, he maintained momentum with “Trilly Wonka,” accumulating another 561K Spotify streams. The music made its way to Cash Money Records who signed him in 2020.

Rising alt pop, hip hop, and R&B act 12AM drops new braggadocious single “Lights” out now via Sony Music Entertainment Canada. On the track, the Canadian talent links up with Baltimore rapper, producer, and Metro Boomin affiliate, Pyrex (Whippa) to deliver a slick end-of-summer jam. Following the streaming success of his latest releases like “come over” and “Ski Mask” (which landed on Spotify’s highly-acclaimed ‘tear drop’ playlist), the new heat cements the Canadian talent as a fiery newcomer to watch.
Produced by Evan Gartner and Mason Sacks, “Lights” features alluring guitar loops over hard hitting 808s and bass, both spotlighting 12AM’s signature melodic R&B sound. The lyrics paint an glorious picture of his freshly acquired L.A. lifestyle: the extravagant bliss of hopping out of suicide doors, jacuzzi living, and women, with questions asked about the pricetag on the finer things. But it didn’t always start out this way, juxtaposed by the artist’s challenged upbringing, 12AM offers his latest verses from the top of the mountain he’s been climbing before his official arrival in 2016. With the assist on the track, Pyrex ascends alongside 12AM with his distinct hot-blooded delivery. Together, flaunting and thriving on it’s hypnotic beat, serve up a certified banger.

Australian duo Korky Buchek are back with their second single of the year, ‘Katt Williams.’ The funky house track is built around audio of the iconic comedian Katt Williams, once again proving they can create whatever they want without following the rules of music creation. ‘Katt Williams’ is now available across all streaming platforms.
‘Katt Williams’ kicks off with irresistible energy, immediately building up with a sample of Katt Williams preaching about how people care too much about what others are doing. With that in mind, Korky Buchek show off their uncompromising individuality and remind listeners through their music to remove pointless opinions from their life and let loose on the dance floor. The track is rife with dark, house sensibilities, with the duos’ own twist added. With early support from the likes of Gregor Salto, Leon Lour, Sleepy Tom, and more, ‘Katt Williams’ is a surefire hit on the dancefloor, primed for the return of nightlife.

Gal Musette is the nom de plum of Grace Freeman, a musical prodigy who began writing piano based lyrical compositions and performing at open mics in her home city of San Clemente, CA at the age of 10. Her graceful approach to melody-driven indie-folk and French chansons has captured audiences all over Southern California. At age 14, inspired by The Magnetic Fields’ triple album 69 Love Songs, Gal recorded her own collection titled 70 Love Songs, which caught the attention of the band, and won her an opening slot on a few of their Midwestern U.S. tour dates. In more recent years, Gal has opened for several renowned artists such as Macy Gray, Suzanne Vega, Todd Snyder, and Donavon Frankenreiter. While her artist name is taken from bal-musette, the accordion-based, waltz-style French instrumental music, Gal’s primary inspiration is drawn from songwriters including Joni Mitchell, Regina Spektor, Bjork, Cocteau Twins, Burt Bacharach, Irving Berlin and The Cure.
In October 2021, Gal will be releasing her debut album, Backwards Lullaby, featuring a vocal duet with one of her biggest musical inspirations, Rufus Wainwright. The upcoming album explores the pangs of hopeless romances and unrequited love, what it’s like to move beyond idealized love into the acceptance of what is real and constant, as well as the cyclical nature of life and love in relationships.

Comprised of multitalented musicians Lauren Harding and Mallory Trunnell, the duo has written and performed together since 2014. With influences like Fleetwood Mac, the Civil Wars, and other rock-infused Americana artists, they craft an ethereal sound buoyant with emotional experiences and expert storytelling. Their single, “WildCard,” is another foray into fantastical storytelling, following a protagonist who loses at love time and time again but never gives up hope that the right one will come along.
Crimson Calamity’s newest single, “WildCard,” is a sweet ride through the trials and tribulations of love. Stacked with talented musicians, including drummer Chris Powell (Brandi Carlile, A Star is Born), bassist Brian Allen (Reba McEntire, A Star is Born), and Guitarist Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell, The 400 Unit), the track itself is awash in perfect layers of sound thanks. The dreamy instrumentation carries the story on a wave of nostalgia, as the heroine reflects on the ups and downs of love itself. Harding and Trunnell’s voices weave together with magic harmonies, inspiring a sense of hope, wonder, and longing. Experts at telling powerful stories, the duo’s lyrics capture a cinematic experience within the lyrics and live-like atmosphere of the music itself.
