INsiders Guide: Vince Staples, GG Magree, Harrison Barnes, TheHxliday, Hans Williams, SWN, Peach Martine, Chubby and the Gang, Talia Stewart….

Esteemed hip-hop artist Vince Staples today debuted his new single  “Magic.”  The Mustard-produced track is the first single off his highly anticipated forthcoming album Ramona Park Broke My Heart. Dedicated to his hometown – the Ramona Park neighborhood of Long Beach, CA – the new album is due out in April via Blacksmith Recordings / Motown Records.

“It’s symbolic of home,” Staples says of the album’s title. “And everyone has a home. Even though it’s very personal to me, everyone can relate to it. That’s why I thought it would work for this chapter.”

Released on Valentine’s Day, “Magic” is meant to provide warm feelings. But the love Staples’ expresses on the track is broader and more complex than its charming beat suggests. It’s a celebration of how he was able to beat the inner city blues and a system designed to keep him seeped in the adversity he was raised in. “It’s handshakes and hugs when I come around,” he raps just before acknowledging that there are foes around who don’t enjoy seeing him win. “I think it’ll put the listener in a good state of mind,” Staples says. “The mood of it defines the project.”

Australian producer and singer-songwriter GG Magree made her Monstercat debut today, with the intoxicating new single, “My Wicked.” Appearing on her forthcoming EP, the song is a brilliant showcase of GG’s inherent ability to coalesce her authentic lyricism with her guitar-led bass sound. Introducing themes that will carry on throughout the project, “My Wicked” attempts to protect the innocence of love while questioning the bitterness of its pitfalls, enveloped by GG’s angelic vocals and anthemic melodies.

GG Magree shares, “In a state of confusion as to why I was addicted to the pleasure and pain of love, I wrote “My Wicked.” They say love will tear us apart but also, all you need is love. We all have demons, but it’s about picking which demons own a piece of your heart.”

It may be freezing outside these winter months, but Las Vegas-based dance pop artist Harrison Barnes heats things up with his steamy new single, “TLC,” just out today. Barnes releases the upbeat dance song to give a taste of his new EP coming out this spring.

Dancing since childhood, Barnes was obsessed with Britney Spears and other popular dance pop artists in the early 90s. Growing up in a small town outside of Charleston, SC, Harrison learned how to dance from hours of watching Britney Spears videos, which also inspired him to write his own songs. Years later, Barnes started to record his songs and released his debut single, “Play Me,” in April 2020 that was very positively received. OUT Magazine featured his music video for “Play Me,” saying that Harrison “serves up some pop vocals that we can certainly come to know and love.” Since his debut single, Barnes released his debut EP of seven songs, If I’m Honest, as well as five more singles and eight music videos.  His singles have garnered nearly 60,000 total Spotify streams.

For his latest single “TLC,” Barnes teamed up with Las Vegas-based producer Mikey Dropz. Barnes originally wrote the song intended for a country singer, with the hook “Tender, Love and Kerosine.” Eventually, he reworked it to the dance song it is now.

TheHxliday isn’t afraid to tap into his feelings. Equal parts introspective and inspiring, the 19-year-old artist is very comfortable with the concept of openness. Through his pop-infused hip-hop, TheHxliday showcases his approach to understanding and digesting life. TheHxliday got serious about music at age 13, after his mom, who was in an alt-rock band called Chick Flick, introduced him to GarageBand and showed him how to loop beats. With music in his bloodline and an incredibly wide-ranging array of genres in his headphones—his favorite artists include My Chemical Romance, Bruno Mars, and Eazy-E—TheHxliday refined and established his own sound across a year of making music in his bedroom. On songs like “Laugh a Little”—from his New Year’s Day Batbxy EP— the rising Baltimore star born Noah Malik Lee offers sage advice for healing oneself while sounding as playful as the title suggests. As a member of the industry-shifting, DIY SoundCloud rap class of the mid-2010s, TheHxliday stands decidedly apart from his peers. TheHxliday’s life changed after dropping his 2018 hit “Enemy.” It’s the ultimate Gen Z breakup anthem, telling the story of the inner strength required to move forward after a toxic relationship ends. It expanded his creative circle to include the inimitable Motown Records, and the Lyrical Lemonade video crew based in Chicago. By combining his passion for rock, pop, hip-hop, and R&B, TheHxliday created a mercurial style that refuses to be boxed into any genre.

Hans Williams is a 21 year old independent singer-songwriter whose wistful, stirring alt-pop is infused with the mindscapes of his native Vermont. Often collaborating with his childhood friend, the producer Phin Choukas, Hans continues to experiment with indie, folk, and alternative sounds as a Junior studying marketing at Tulane University. He is excited to share his development as an artist and an individual with each new release.

SWN is an undeniable talent and a name that is quickly rising through the world of UK rap. The producer, songwriter and artist has earned his stripes with work alongside Unknown T, Loski, Krept and Konan as well as leading the charge on a string of his own releases over the last year. Teaming up with fellow Camden sensation and chart topper Dappy for his new single ‘Fame’, SWN brings things to a whole new level for 2022 as he affirms his status as the ‘next to blow’. STREAM/DOWNLOAD: SWN FT DAPPY- FAMELeaning on the melodic and harmonious rap flair that is shared in differing ways by SWN and Dappy, ‘Fame’, produced by Goon Cartel and SWN, begins with an infectious melody that is quickly backed up with banging 808s and vibrant percussion. Lyrically exploring the struggles they face during the ‘come up’ and the changes in how people treat them, SWN and Dappy go back to back on the verses with witty wordplay, adding an array of adlibs to create a flawless blend for the single.

Peach Martine reveals the official music video for “True Story” with an exclusive premiere on Facebook: https://fb.watch/bamL5pnJ5B/Born from the ashes of heartbreak, “True Story” is a cathartic and emotional letter penned to an ex. Last year, her stripped-back piano rendition of “True Story” went viral on TikTok and quickly gained over 1.1M views. With encouragement from her fans, Peach recorded and released the song on streaming platforms and, now, she is ready to present the accompanying visual for the song— “the ‘True Story’ music video is an emotional recreation of my exact reaction to the situation the song describes,” she says. “Burning those photos and throwing out things I kept for sentimental reasons during the video felt so freeing.”

Happy Valentine’s Day! West London 5-piece Chubby and the Gang have shared a new EP entitled ‘Labour of Love,’ featuring three brand new songs, as well as a music video for lead single “Who Loves Ya (Coup d’état)”. ‘Labour of Love’ is available now digitally, and a special picture disc 7″ is available to pre-order now (HERE). Steve Lamacq premiered “Who Loves Ya (Coup d’état)” on his BBC 6Music show this morning.Chubby and the Gang – “Who Loves Ya (Coup d’état)”The video for “Who Loves Ya (Coup d’état)” was filmed and edited by the band’s tour manager, Ted Foster. Frontman Charlie Manning Walker says of the song: “We had the idea to do a Valentine’s Day single and I sort of wanted to show all the angles of love. Warts and all. Quite often it’s not such a smooth experience. Can often feel scary and insane. So I wanted to write a bubblegum song about it but also show the duality of the emotion.”

Dark pop singer, Talia Stewart releases her new single “SUGAR” that is out now along with the music video that is featured on Ladygunn. The track follows previous singles ALCOHOL, NICOTINE, and MONEY.

Talia says, “SUGAR compares one of the world’s biggest vices to a toxic romantic relationship. I think everyone has had that someone they think they’ll outgrow but just can’t. My sweet tooth for the person that inspired this song had me crawling back to them no matter how bad the crash was. I recruited my friend, and fellow Nashville artist, Lexi Aviles of Love You Later to feature on this one. Lexi and I both compare sugar to a toxic lover throughout the song. The ice cream truck intro was produced by Aron Rosing and inspired by the incessant chirping of the ice cream truck that used to plague my street when I lived in West Nashville. In keeping with my last few releases, this song explores addiction and how/why we find ourselves in its grasp.”
