Your new single, “Lost My Country,” is generating buzz! Can you share what inspired you to write this song?

As much as I relate to the song Lost My Country, my mother was actually the inspiration for it. She is from a small town here in Tennessee, and she grew up country! Like shooting rattle snakes out of the trees and walking barefoot in the creak type of country. Flash forward many years, her and my dad are taking me and my older brother down to a river and she tries to walk across some rocks and almost falls in the water. My dad looked at my mom and said “Girl, you done lost your country.” And at that moment we all knew that song had to be written

As someone with deep roots in Tennessee and a connection to country legends like Dolly Parton, how do your hometown experiences influence your music and lyrics?

Growing up in Tennessee and especially being so close to Nashville, country music has always been my greatest influence. Even more than the music style itself, the songwriting style has had a huge impact on how I like to write. Country music tells a story and through that so much emotion is shown. I’m always asked, “What artist inspire you the most?” I have never had a very good answer to this question, because it has always been the great songwriters in Nashville that have been my inspiration.

What is your favorite memory from performing in front of your home church congregation during your younger years?

I switched to a really small private school about halfway through high school. It was a Christian school where they did church services once a week during school. We had a student lead band and I was one of the worship leaders. That has always been one of my greatest memories. It’s not an easy thing to do that in front of your peers especially after weeks of dealing with the drama that comes with high school. But doing it and seeing other students throw their hands up in worship and not caring what anyone else thought is a memory I will cherish forever.

Having a background in both performance and the film industry, how do those experiences shape your approach to creating music?

Being in the film industry for the little time that I was really showed me how much I loved entertaining. It’s one thing to create music and write songs, but when I get on a stage and get the privilege of entertaining others that is a feeling that is unmatched. Being in film proved to myself how much I loved the entertainment industry in more ways than just music.

You’ve opened for some well-known artists like Lorrie Morgan and Craig Campbell. How has sharing the stage with these country greats influenced your musical journey?

Both Craig and Lorrie are two artists that I have loved long before ever imagining I would be sharing a stage with them. Seeing how devoted their fans are and how they have perfected their craft really inspired me to want to work as hard as I could to be at the place they are at. I could see how much they loved the music and the people that put them where they are and that it wasn’t just a job to them, and that is exactly how I want to be. This industry throws a lot at you, but I never want to forget my first love, the music.

Can you tell us more about your passion for songwriting? What themes or emotions do you find yourself drawn to when writing?

Songwriting is my therapy. When I’m sad, happy, lost, confused, I can turn to writing to help me process my emotions. Of course being a young adult comes with a lot of heartbreak, which means a lot of songs! But, I believe there is a song in everything. I was even inspired when I bought a car and saw how high interest rates are!

With new music on the horizon, what can fans expect next from you after “Lost My Country”? Are there any exciting projects or collaborations in the works?

I have a song we are on the tail end of right now! Fans can expect it towards the end of October. I wrote this song about two years ago with a friend of mine, and I think now is the time people need to hear it. There is a lot of chaos in the world right now. Especially with it being election year I see so much division and so much hate and it blinds a lot of people from seeing the issues that we all should care about regardless of where you stand politically. This song was written to pinpoint just some of the things we as American and as humans should be fighting to change rather than fighting each other. I really hope people can see the bigger picture through this song and if it helps one person then it is worth it to me!
