Where Are They Now? : 90’s Norwegian Pop Duo, M2M

M2M, the Norwegian pop duo consisting of Marit Larsen and Marion Raven, first captured hearts in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Known for their catchy tunes and heartfelt lyrics, they quickly became a staple in the teen pop scene. Their debut single, “Don’t Say You Love Me,” featured in the soundtrack of Pokémon: The First Movie, catapulted them to international fame.

Their debut album, Shades of Purple (2000), was a commercial success, selling over 1.5 million copies worldwide. The album included hits like “Mirror Mirror” and “Everything You Do.” Their follow-up album, The Big Room (2001), showcased a more mature sound but did not achieve the same level of commercial success. Despite this, it was praised for its lyrical depth and musical complexity.

In 2002, M2M disbanded, much to the disappointment of their fans. Both Marit and Marion pursued solo careers, each carving out their own niche in the music industry. Marit Larsen released her debut solo album, Under the Surface, in 2006, which was well-received in Norway and beyond. Marion Raven also found success with her solo debut, Here I Am, in 2005.

Over the years, both artists continued to release music and tour. Marit Larsen’s solo work often leaned towards folk and acoustic pop, while Marion Raven embraced a rockier edge. Despite their individual successes, fans always hoped for a reunion.

In September 2024, after a 22-year hiatus, M2M surprised fans with a reunion announcement. They posted a video on Instagram, performing an acoustic version of their hit “The Day You Went Away.” The post hinted at new beginnings with the caption, “Let’s give this story a better ending.”

Following their reunion announcement, M2M revealed plans for “The Better Endings Tour,” set to kick off in Southeast Asia in 2025. This tour promises to bring back the nostalgia of their early hits while introducing new material to their fans.

In addition to their tour, M2M has been working on new music. They have hinted at collaborations with contemporary artists, blending their classic sound with modern influences. This new phase in their career aims to bridge the gap between their original fanbase and a new generation of listeners.

Marit and Marion have embraced social media to reconnect with their fans. Their official Instagram page features behind-the-scenes content, updates on their music, and personal insights into their lives. This direct interaction has reignited the excitement among their followers.

Both Marit and Marion have grown significantly since their early days as pop stars. They have shared their journeys of personal growth, including their experiences with motherhood, personal challenges, and triumphs.

Looking ahead, M2M aims to continue making music that resonates with their audience. They have expressed a desire to experiment with different genres and collaborate with diverse artists. Their goal is to remain relevant and innovative in the ever-evolving music industry. As they embark on this new chapter, Marit Larsen and Marion Raven are poised to create new memories and leave an even greater legacy in the world of pop music.
