INsiders Guide: Lou Emery, SORRYNOTSORRY, Danny Miles, MANUEL TURIZO, Colony House…

Lou Emery is a pop-rock powerhouse based in Los Angeles, CA. Driven by rhythmic grooves, big choruses, and powerful vocals, she crafts music meant to pull people out of their seats. Lou was raised in a big family that pushed her to constantly explore new places and experiences–an attitude that inspires the confident diversity of her songs. In line with the genre-bending of today’s top artists, her style brazenly explores the broad landscape of pop-rock, delivering everything from infectious, dance-worthy pop tracks to gritty, angst-filled rock anthems. She infuses this with passionate storytelling, exploring the complexities of life’s relationships, young womanhood, fun escapism, and the hidden vulnerability that goes along with it all. Drawing from influences like Sammy Rae & the Friends, Paramore, and Olivia Rodrigo, she creates songs that linger both in the mind and the heart.

Paving her way as a singer in a family of engineers, Lou went on to study music and songwriting at the University of Miami’s Frost School of Music, where she was pushed to develop all areas of her artistry. Surrounded by a community of talented peers and faculty, she collaborated with a range of musicians and studied under notable faculty, like Steve Rucker of the Bee Gees and Emmy- and Grammy-award-winning composer Carlos Rivera.

But more than anything else, Lou was born for the stage. She’s most known for her vibrant live performances, where her contagious charisma and undeniable musicianship turn shows into unforgettable experiences.

Psychedelic rock duo SORRYNOTSORRY returns with “Disappear,” an ambient track with cathartic lyrics that get to the core of loss, tumultuous passion, and heartbreak. The single, which is the final track off their upcoming album The Other Side, out on October 17, will be followed by an official music video featuring a performance by dancer Camilia Araque, directed by Samantha Dagnino. “Disappear” is out now on all digital platforms worldwide.

With hypnotic vocals, fuzzy and ethereal arrangements, and stripped-down production, “Disappear” stands as SORRYNOTSORRY’s most intimate track to date. Written and produced by the duo, the single was mixed by Andrés Cottin and mastered by Zach Kornhauser (Portugal. The Man, Sia, Kelly Clarkson). “If you pay close attention, you can hear the emotion in my voice. I didn’t replace the vocals in the studio even though I was sobbing while recording this song,” says vocalist Samantha Dagnino. “I was singing from a broken heart. There’s something about capturing a moment like that, where you are alone in your room with a guitar expressing a deep feeling, you can’t replace or replicate that in a studio or on a computer.” Leaning into themes of yearning and heartache, the track unravels the complicated weight of loss through soul-baring lyrics that feel like free-falling. The production enhances this vulnerability, with Cottin’s guitar work stretching between melancholy and lift, creating a wistful atmosphere before climaxing into a storm of epic, roaring guitars that bring the song to a cathartic close. “Samantha suggested that I record a couple of guitar takes to give the song an arc,” explains Cottin. “My idea was to introduce elements from ambient guitar and make the song feel like it’s growing and add some shimmer.”

Following the genre-defying sonic pivot marked by Beautiful Music and its remix sibling The Ruined Version – featuring collaborators like Shad, Saukrates, Kevin Drew (Broken Social Scene), Moka Only, and Aquakultre – July Talk‘s Danny Miles returns with a bold and sweaty new direction on his latest single, “All We Do Is Party!

With this gritty, explosive track, Miles channels the wild abandon of the indie sleaze era and throws down a dance-punk anthem that’s equal parts chaotic and calculated. Imagine a basement party where Le Tigre and Jay Reatard meet up for a drink, and you’re halfway there.

The song’s foundation came from a completely different vibe: an indie disco version with a different bassline and beat. But something didn’t feel right – so Miles scrapped it, re-tracked the live drums, and turned the track into the raw, unruly monster it is now. The vocals stayed the same, but everything else snapped into place, harder and sweatier.

The six-track EP has been three years in the making for Anaïs. Along the way, she brought in producer Ben Coleman, as well as her bandmates and fellow New York musicians, to give each tack its own collaborative imprint. That spirit of collaboration extended beyond the band, with her mother helping refine the lyrics of her first French-language song, “Passe le temps,” and a poem by her friend Alex Brady becoming part of “Cool.” “It’s been fun to cobble together,” she shares. “Basically, every song was touched by someone in or around the live band.”

Across Growing Pains, Anaïs explores themes of identity, nostalgia, and self-discovery. The songs capture the tension of growing up while still wanting to hold on to the kid you once were. “These songs were some of the first I wrote that truly felt like me,” Anaïs says. “Most of these songs came together after I moved from California to New York, at a time when I was figuring out who I wanted to be. That chapter of my life gave me the chance to embrace the traits and experiences that now define me as both an artist and a person.”

The album also features a collaboration with Aaron Marsh (of Copeland), who composed the lush string and woodwind arrangement for one of its most poignant tracks.
Her latest single “Broken Clock” is a stunning folk embrace featuring blissful harmonies and delicate acoustic rhythms. She shares, “‘Even a broken clock is right twice a day’ is an old saying that caught my attention when an old boyfriend called me ‘blind.’ I thought then—even with my blind spots, I knew my gut was right in leaving that relationship behind.”
