Richard Gere has joined the cast of the upcoming Apple TV+ limited series “The Off Weeks,” according to Variety.
He will appear alongside previously announced leads Ben Stiller and Jessica Chastain, as well as cast members Arian Moayed and Annaleigh Ashford, in the eight-episode series.
The show’s premise follows writing professor Gus Adler (Stiller), whose life is thrown into disarray by divorce. During his custody ‘on weeks,’ he struggles to manage daily responsibilities with his children. However, during his ‘off weeks,’ he finds himself falling dangerously in love with Stella West (Chastain), a mysterious woman whose arrival threatens to cause a collision between Gus’s on-week duties and off-week ambitions. Details about Gere’s character are still being kept under wraps.
This marks Gere’s second major streaming project in recent years, following the Paramount+ spy thriller “The Agency: Central Intelligence.” He is best known for his roles in films such as “An Officer and a Gentleman,” “American Gigolo,” “Pretty Woman,” “Primal Fear,” and “Chicago.” Gere received Golden Globe nominations for “An Officer and a Gentleman” and “Pretty Woman,” and won the award for his performance in “Chicago.” He is represented by WME, PMK Entertainment, and Hirsch Wallerstein.
Stiller will serve as an executive producer through Red Hour Productions alongside John Lesher. Chastain is also an executive producer, working with Kelly Carmichael for Freckle Films. Showrunner and executive producer Alissa Nutting, known for “Made for Love” and “Teenage Euthanasia,” is leading the series. Director Michael Showalter, who developed the project with Semi-Formal Productions, also executive produces, along with Jordana Mollick. Additional executive producers include Paul Lee and Gabriel Fisher for wiip, Peter Principato, Allen Fischer, and Brian Steinberg for Artists First, and Dean Bakopoulos. wiip will produce the series.
