New images from David Ayer’s upcoming thriller Heart of the Beast, starring Brad Pitt, have just been unveiled, offering a glimpse into the rugged Alaskan wilderness and the intense survival journey Pitt’s character undertakes with his dog.
The photos, released by GQ, showcase Pitt’s gritty appearance as he navigates various harsh environments alongside his loyal German shepherd. Scenes captured include Pitt armed with a rifle, standing on a seaplane, and camping outdoors, emphasizing the raw challenges ahead.
In the film, Pitt portrays James Belmont, an Army veteran who, together with his retired combat dog Odin, fights to survive the brutal elements after their plane crashes in the wild. A trailer debuted at CinemaCon, featuring intense encounters with wolves, bears, and other threats.
Director David Ayer, known for films like Suicide Squad, Bright, and The Beekeeper, shared why he embraced a script he didn’t write himself: the powerful bond between man and animal moved him deeply. Ayer said, “It’s not just a guy and his pet—they’re co-equals. The story explores grief, healing, and the human heart. It made me cry.”
The cast also includes J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe. The film is written by Cameron Alexander and produced by Pitt, Ayer, Marty Bowen, and Olivia Hamilton, with executive producers including Damien Chazelle and others. This marks the second collaboration between Pitt and Ayer since 2014’s Fury.
Heart of the Beast will hit theaters on September 25, 2026.
