The band’s previous EP, How Do You Feel?, released in August 2024, became a defining moment in their discography. Following the success of the EP, Savings intentionally stepped away from releasing music. “Sparking Waterfalls” is the latest release from Garrett Anthony Rice’s forthcoming double album Equinox, a song built around the way ordinary moments can become permanent memories. The track was inspired by a story shared with Rice by a middle aged friend, who recalled sneaking into his father’s garage at night in rural Ireland during the 1960s to watch him repair vehicles. Hidden away in the quiet of the evening, he watched the sparks from his father’s welding torch illuminate the darkness. Years later, after his father’s sudden passing at a young age, those sparks became something more: a fragment of time preserved, a reminder of a person who could no longer be reached.
The arrangement opens wide, drawing from a palette that nods gently toward modern alt country while carrying the spaciousness that has become a defining part of Rice’s work. There is a patient quality to the song, one that allows melodies and phrases to unfold naturally rather than rushing toward a conclusion. Much like the memory at its centre, “Sparking Waterfalls” is less concerned with arriving somewhere quickly than with remaining inside a moment long enough to understand its meaning.

Boorloo/Perth artists Goon and Daunt unite for their first full-length collaborative album, ‘COLD FRONT’, out Friday, July 24. Across 18 tracks, the hip hop, R&B and electronic concept album tackles heartbreak, toxic relationships and self-sabotage head-on, anchored by Daunt’s genre-blurring production and Goon’s introspective lyricism.
Years in the making, ‘COLD FRONT’ marks a significant milestone for the pair, who spent two years building their own South Perth studio, Hive6. Having collaborated regularly throughout their careers, this is their first complete body of work together, showcasing the chemistry forged through years of writing and creating side by side.
A unique combination of simple, laidback house and chaotic, complex electronic production, ‘COLD FRONT’ pairs raw, creative lyricism with an unmistakably Australian authenticity. At its core, “They’ll Never Suspect Us” is an imagined scenario pushed to its most uncomfortable extreme: a gleeful, fictional descent into violence narrated with eerie confidence and emotional distance. “There’s a long tradition of murder ballads,” Adam Bentley explains. “But what about murder anthems? A song that gleefully imagines the act, while rubbing the victim’s face in the idea that no one will care about their demise.”
