Thanks to Deadline who gave fans of Disney a first look into D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, offering a glimpse at some of the biggest movies and television projects coming in the years ahead.
The three-day event in Anaheim, California, kicked off with Disney’s highly anticipated showcase, which featured updates on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Star Wars, Pixar, Disney Animation and Disney+.
Among the biggest announcements were new additions to the X-Men cast, footage from Avengers: Doomsday, the first look at the live-action Tangled, previews of Coco 2 and The Bluey Movie, and updates on Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Star Wars: Ahsoka and more.
Here are the biggest announcements from D23.
‘The Incredibles 3’
Pixar’s Peter Docter offered an early look at The Incredibles 3, which will put Violet and Dash Parr at the center of the story as they attempt to prove they are ready to become fully fledged Supers.
The siblings are determined to follow in the footsteps of their parents, Bob and Helen Parr, but their parents remain unconvinced that they are ready for the responsibility.
As the story unfolds, Violet and Dash begin sneaking out at night to protect their city, creating plenty of trouble at home. Meanwhile, they are also struggling to keep Jack-Jack’s powers under control.
A new threat will put even more pressure on Bob, who begins questioning his place in a world where the next generation of Supers is coming into its own.
Peter Sohn is directing the sequel from a script by Brad Bird. Craig T. Nelson returns as Bob Parr, with Sarah Vowell reprising her role as Violet and Huck Milner returning as Dash.
‘Kingdom Hearts: The Series’
Disney+ has greenlit a new Kingdom Hearts series based on the beloved video game franchise created by Tetsuya Nomura.
The series will reimagine the iconic adventure with an original story designed to expand the Kingdom Hearts universe while bringing its fan-favorite characters to a new audience.
‘Ghost Market’
Pixar previewed Ghost Market, a new animated feature expected to arrive in 2028.
Trevor Jimenez and Jesse Andrews are set to co-direct the film, which appears to combine supernatural elements with Pixar’s signature humor and heart.
D23 audiences were shown footage introducing Kyle, a young boy who has recently been forced by his family to move to Hawaii. After entering a dark and seemingly empty kitchen, Kyle discovers a bowl of warm soup waiting for him.
The setting quickly proves to be anything but ordinary.
In one of the footage’s comedic moments, Kyle asks, “Hey, do you guys take Apple Pay?” before appearing on FaceTime and describing the movie as being about “hungry ghosts.”
‘Coco 2’
Pixar also offered a preview of Coco 2, which is scheduled for release in November 2029.
Benjamin Bratt will return as Ernesto de la Cruz, the larger-than-life musician at the center of the original film’s story.
New sketches shown at D23 reveal that Miguel is no longer the young boy audiences met in the first movie and has grown into a teenager.
Bratt teased Ernesto’s return, suggesting that the character will once again play a major role in Miguel’s story.
‘The Bluey Movie’
Disney unveiled a teaser for The Bluey Movie, giving fans their first look at the upcoming big-screen adventure based on the hugely popular animated series.
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on August 6, 2027.
‘Tangled’ Live-Action First Look
D23 audiences were also treated to the first look at Disney’s live-action adaptation of Tangled.
Tegan Croft stars as Rapunzel in the new take on the animated classic.
The film is scheduled to arrive in theaters on March 31, 2028.
‘Percy Jackson and the Olympians’ Season 3
Walker Scobell took the stage at the Honda Center to introduce the trailer for Season 3 of Disney+’s Percy Jackson and the Olympians.
The actor also teased a darker chapter for the series, promising that the upcoming season will take the characters into more serious territory.
Scobell highlighted the opportunity to return alongside co-stars Aryan Simhadri, Leah Sava Jeffries and Charlie Bushnell, saying that the cast’s familiarity with the characters makes each new season an exciting experience.
He also explained that the cast was able to take audience reactions to Season 2 into account while filming the third season, allowing them to make adjustments based on viewer feedback.
‘Oswald’
Jon Favreau appeared at D23 to give fans a first look at Oswald, a three-part series headed to Disney+ in February 2027.
The project will bring the classic Disney character into a new story for modern audiences.
‘Romy & Michele 2’
Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino reunited at D23 as they celebrated the completion of filming on the sequel to Romy & Michele’s High School Reunion.
The pair reprised their iconic roles and offered fans a preview of what to expect when the longtime friends return for another adventure.
‘Ice Age: Boiling Point’
Queen Latifah and Denis Leary teased Ice Age: Boiling Point, the latest animated installment in the Ice Age franchise.
The movie is scheduled to hit theaters on February 5, 2027.
‘Lilo & Stitch 2’
Maia Kealoha, who starred in Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch, confirmed that a sequel is in development and is scheduled to premiere on May 28, 2028.
The follow-up will also introduce Angel, Stitch’s pink counterpart and fan-favorite character from the original animated franchise.
New ‘X-Men’ Cast Confirmed
One of the biggest announcements of the showcase was the confirmation of additional cast members for Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men movie.
Adam Driver was officially confirmed as Nathaniel Milbury, better known to comic book fans as Mister Sinister.
Chris Abbott has also joined the cast as Charles Xavier, aka Professor X, while Inde Navarrette will play Rogue and Maya Boyd will portray Storm.
The announcements follow previous casting reports, including Samara Weaving as Emma Frost and Kit Connor as Cyclops. Those casting choices were also officially confirmed at D23.
The new X-Men movie is currently scheduled for release on May 5, 2028.
‘Star Wars: Ahsoka’ Season 2
After nearly three years away, Star Wars: Ahsoka is returning, and D23 audiences received their first look at Season 2.
Rosario Dawson reprises her role as Ahsoka Tano, with Natasha Liu Bordizzo returning as Jedi apprentice Sabine Wren.
The new season follows Ahsoka and Sabine as they navigate a dangerous world beyond the known galaxy while attempting to find their way home.
Meanwhile, their allies face Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen, whose return threatens to plunge the New Republic into a new war.
‘VisionQuest’
D23 also unveiled the first look at VisionQuest, the upcoming Disney+ spinoff from WandaVision.
The series is set to premiere on October 14 and stars Paul Bettany as Vision, the former Avenger who was introduced in Avengers: Age of Ultron and later killed in Avengers: Infinity War before returning without his memories and emotions.
James Spader returns as Ultron, while Todd Stashwick plays the morally ambiguous mercenary Paladin. Faran Tahir also reprises his role as Raza from Iron Man.
The cast additionally includes Lauren Morais, Diane Morgan, Orla Brady, Polly Frame, Henry Lewis, Jonathan Sayer, Emily Hampshire and James D’Arcy.
‘Star Wars: Starfighter’
Director Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling appeared at D23 to reveal more about the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter.
Gosling stars as Kade, a pilot at the center of the new story.
The footage shown at the event featured Flynn Gray’s young character entering a rundown spaceship garage, where he discovers a spacecraft. Gosling’s Kade then arrives and warns him, “Didn’t I tell you not to touch anything?”
‘Zootopia 3’
Disney confirmed that Zootopia 3 is moving forward, with Ginnifer Goodwin and Ke Huy Quan set to reprise their roles.
The announcement adds another chapter to the popular animated franchise following the success of the first two films.
‘Frozen 3’
Kristen Bell delivered another major update on Frozen 3, confirming that Anna will marry Kristoff in the upcoming sequel.
Jonathan Groff will return as Kristoff, with Elsa by Anna’s side for the milestone moment.
With so many major announcements spanning Marvel, Pixar, Disney Animation and Star Wars, D23 offered an early look at a packed slate of projects that will keep Disney fans busy through the rest of the decade.
