Pop icons Madonna and Charli xcx have officially joined forces for a bold new collaboration, “Danceteria Afterhours,” drawing inspiration from the fearless beginnings and musical influences that helped shape both artists’ careers.
Produced by Madonna alongside Andrew Watt, Cirkut and Stuart Price, the track pays homage to Madonna’s early influences while bringing Charli xcx’s distinctive pop sensibilities into the mix. The collaboration comes after the pair recently teamed up for their CLUB CONFESSIONS party with Saint Laurent during Paris Fashion Week, followed by a series of playful exchanges on social media that sparked speculation about a possible musical collaboration.
Now, the rumors have become reality. “Danceteria Afterhours” is out now via Warner Records, with three limited-edition CD versions also available for pre-order.
The release arrives as Madonna continues the rollout of her widely acclaimed No. 1 album, Confessions II. The record has earned praise for its deeply personal exploration of love, trauma, loss, betrayal and healing, while reaffirming Madonna’s long-standing connection to dance music and club culture.
At the heart of the album is the idea that the dance floor can be more than a place for entertainment — it can offer escapism, connection and a sense of survival. Critics have taken note of the album’s impact, with Variety describing it as “her best album in decades,” while Pitchfork praised Madonna as being in “peak form.” Rolling Stone also highlighted the record’s seamless flow, describing it as a 64-minute groove reminiscent of a perfectly curated club DJ set.
Madonna’s busy year continues with another major milestone on the horizon. The superstar is set to open this Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards, marking her first performance at the ceremony in 23 years.
The appearance will be Madonna’s fifth VMA performance — the most in the show’s history — and comes as she leads this year’s nominations with a career-high 13 nods. Since performing at the inaugural MTV VMAs, Madonna has become synonymous with the ceremony’s most talked-about and memorable moments, delivering performances that have repeatedly pushed boundaries and shaped pop culture.
