INsiders Guide: Kris Angelis, Scorcher, MOD Sun, Kelow LaTesha, Skripture, ANDRÉS ALCOVER, FELIX III, UNUSUAL DEMONT, Stay Flee Get Lizzy, DDG….

Kris Angelis’ journey of self-exploration continues her latest single “Win The Game,” out on June 17th, 2022. A songwriter known for her intense transparency and hopeful reflections, Kris Angelis continues to impress fans and critics alike with each subsequent release. Her 2020 EP, “THAT SIREN, HOPE,” debuted at #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts, topped Billboard’s Top Current Albums Chart and was on the first-round ballot for the 2021 GRAMMY Awards. Additionally, her latest single, “Run” was added to rotation on SiriusXM The Loft and is currently receiving FM radio play across the country while “The Skies We Look To” debuted at #1 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter charts. As she prepares to release her newest project, “Damn Shame Waste,” she dives deeper into moments of healing and hope. Her newest single, “Win the Game,” reflects on the healing that must be done to be your best self when you’re at your worst. The slow mix of tender piano and heart aching cello, played by Dave Eggar (Coldplay, Beyoncé, Pearl Jam, Ray Lamontagne), launches a track that pulls at the heartstrings with every changing chord. The track, which centers on being real, raw, and vulnerable while fighting for the important things, encourages listeners to strip away societies desire for apathy and instead live in our emotions. Soft vocals billow and sway as the chorus grows to a satisfying swell of harmonies and layers of expertly crafted instrumentation. While Angelis sings, “I’d rather jump in and clean up the mess than win the game of who cares less,” listeners feel her desperation to shed herself of reactive living and find peace in her own vulnerability. Check out “Win The Game” off her upcoming body of work “Damn Shame Waste.”

What more can we say at this point? Bush Hill Park legend Scorcher is almost two-decades deep into the UK rap dynasty; yet every time he pops up, he sounds as hungry he did on the dizzying, Y2K pirate radio stations. From acting in Top Boy’s first season back in 2010 down to his latest LP, ‘The Drama’ — everything Scorcher touches is imbued with his meticulous work ethic and world-building anecdotes.

After blessing fans with the deluxe edition to his beloved ‘The Drama’ record this February, Scorcher has teamed up with UK rap hitmaker Tion Wayne for their fresh new collaboration ‘Ops’.

On the single — produced by Joey Stickz — we catch the North London spitters demonstrate what they do best once again, shelling out quotables and slick one-liners left and right as they stand atop a cinematic, drillified set-piece.

Hailed as a “certified legend” by Complex UK, the 35-year-old rap veteran has shown no signs of stagnation since he was released from prison back in 2019. With a renewed mind state and a weathered street-sculpted perspective on things, ‘Ops’ plays out like a summer-ready victory lap for the Enfield rhymer.

singer, songwriter, and producer MOD SUN returns with “Perfectly Imperfect”, an upbeat pop-punk song just in time for summer. The track follows “Rich Kids Ruin Everything”, marking the second release from his upcoming album. On the uplifting track, MOD urges and empowers listeners to be “anything they want to be.”

“Is it not strange that “I’m Perfect” and “Imperfect” are spelled the exact same way?”, said MOD SUN. “There’s a message in that….we are all perfect just the way we are. Growing up in this day and age, it’s hard to not compare our lives to others. “Perfectly Imperfect” is a self love anthem about embracing yourself and your differences. We are all special. I’ll never be exactly like my idols and heroes and that’s amazing because I am ME! Also, It’s summertime and all we are hearing is sad songs…the world needs some happiness right now.”

Kelow LaTesha’s track record with leading charge for the DMV Hip Hop, Go-Go music scene remains undisputed. Today, after teasing the release in many forms earlier this year, she unlocks her single “Titanic” released in partnership with SoundCloud, featuring the late Goonew. Fresh from being announced on the newest class for SoundCloud’s revered artist development program ‘First On SoundCloud,’ the rising star is poised for her most decorated year as breakout success awaits. The MANNYVELLI produced track is available to listen to and purchase HERE, along with an accompanying out-of-this-world official music video available to watch HERE

Skripture is a modern renaissance man of sorts: morphing his artistry at will — actively switching between emceeing, singing and beat-making. Embodying all of his signature traits in one tight-knit package — the West London rhymer has returned with his long-awaited grime-laced gem ‘Who Don’t Love Me’.

Slated as the lead single from the rapper’s upcoming album ‘One Accord’, ‘Who Don’t Love Me’ is constructed with Black Belt-adjacent lyrical acrobatics throughout. Skripture’s wordplay is boundless as ever on ‘Who Don’t Love Me’ — and it’s only getting better with time.

Residing in a realm between trap, drill and grime, Skripture unleashes a melody-driven refrain before the track erupts into a cavalcade of molten bars: effortlessly complemented by the skippy, self-produced instrumental.

Outside of being an active rapper, vocalist and producer: Skripture is a one-man studio, regularly mixing, mastering his own tunes and penning tracks for other artists.

Majorcan-born singer-songwriter Andrés Alcover has released his majestic new single “Where Did We Go Wrong?”, along with b-side “Resigned”.

Coming as a glimmering follow-up to his string of 2021 releases — including debut single “Untouchable” — the new track is a daydream-inducing cut of twinkling percussion and gently twanging guitars underpinned by Andrés’ laidback vocal delivery.

A delicate web of vintage-tinged rhythms, textured guitars and cushiony harmonies, “Where Did We Go Wrong?” stirs to life with gentle acoustic guitar plucks before blossoming into a more complex arrangement of mellow instrumentation that glimmers like a long-lost relic found in an abandoned ‘70s LA recording studio.

Written, produced and arranged by Andrés himself, the artist explains of the track’s production:

“I wrote the song a couple of years ago, my time split between Spain and the UK, and recorded it at my flat in London. However, the drums were recorded in an old abandoned theatre-turned-studio in Majorca by Spanish drummer and good friend Tomi Solbas. He created the perfect sound to accompany the rest of the instrumentation, and you can really hear the room’s texture.”

Queer, Mexican-American musician and composer FELIX III releases his new video for “The Sounds I Make” today. FELIX III’s music focuses on giving into carnal pleasures at the cost of mental wellbeing – and centers around unlearning the damage caused by poverty, homophobia, higher education, heartbreak and the great sadness of not living up to the American Dream that we are conditioned to believe in as our ultimate goal.

Of “The Sounds I Make” and its accompanying video, FELIX III says: “This song is about dancing away your problems. ‘The Sounds I Make’ is my lyrical mantra. It is facing the things you aren’t happy with in your life, and letting them go. Every sound you make is a chance to grow, learn and expand your potential. I used Big Room style beats with rave-ready anthemic synths to drive the song forward, much like life. Then I used a modulating vocoder to change my voice as the song progresses like the way we change our points of view as we mature and grow wiser.

The video is shot vertically. We want you to watch it on your phone, just like everything else. “The Sounds I Make” was shot in a swimming pool, a bathtub, and at the ocean. I wanted to capture the vulnerability of being in and beside a body of water. Water can be both healing and dangerous – one minute we are floating at the top, and the next we are under the waves. Being in water is also a place where we cast aside inhibitions and expose our bodies. As the ingenue in the video, we wanted that voyeuristic side of the starlet in the swimming pool gazing at the Hollywood producer debating how far he would go to get the part.”

FELIX III is the official artist-in-residence for OUTsider Fest – an Austin-based transmedia nonprofit that celebrates the bold originality and creative nonconformity of the LGBTQ+ communities through the presentation of provocative, overlooked and out-of-the-box film, dance, theater, performance art, music, writing and visual art. Through OUTsider Fest, FELIX III will be the recipient of the NEA (National Endowment for the Arts Grant). The residency began with a performance earlier this year and will continue with the presentation of a semi-surreal feature film to be shot this year and premiere in 2023.

Maybe Not’ is actually a song that I’ve had for a while but it didn’t feel like the right time to release it until now. I made it around 2020 with the same idea I had creating HUES. – which is simply – songs that make you feel good. However, this one always stood apart from the rest of that project to me. Not only instrumentally (provided by the Stoic beats), but it’s energy as well. From the booming 808s, to the light almost-music-box sound that plays the main chords, it was, for lack of better words, “too fun” to fit in with the rest. That said, timing is everything, especially with change, and ‘Maybe Not’ is the perfect preparation/transition into the new world I’m inviting you into with my next releases. A world that feels like your favorite summer memory all the time. I hope you enjoy this invitation.

“Storyteller” threads together breezy acoustic guitar with a buoyant beat as his narrative bars take hold. It culminates on one of his catchiest and most chantable choruses yet, “Hot girls have cold hearts, cold hearts hide deep scars like a motherfucker, deep scars make better stories, but I ain’t no storyteller. It ultimately illuminates another facet of this fiery hip-hop force!

It arrives on the heels of his otherworldly banger “Elon Musk” [feat. Gunna]. The latter has impressively generated 24 million Spotify streams and counting and 9.6 million YouTube views on the music video. Right out of the gate, it earned critical acclaim. Complex observed, “The Pontiac, Michigan native goes back-to-back with Gunna over an ethereal 808-heavy beat,” and UPROXX added, DDG decides to take his talents to outer space.” Meanwhile, Our Generation Music put it best, “With each passing year he continues to level up his status, bringing along high-profile features and consistently dropping quality music of his own.”

Jesse Rivest is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, and self-producing artist who you likely have never heard of. Don’t worry, most folks haven’t; and yet, he’s been around for over 15 years. He’s been **around**. Originally from Stony Plain, Alberta, Rivest justifiably calls Kelowna, British Columbia, home. Ah, but he was born in Ontario. He released his first LP in Calgary after travelling and performing around Australia for most of 2005; he had lived in Calgary for a few years up to that point. His next release was an EP made while living in New Zealand for seven years; most of 2011 was spent in Buenos Aires; his next EP—and various singles after that—were produced in Brasilia, the capital of Brazil, where he’s been based since 2013. No wonder you haven’t heard of him—he hasn’t been around.

Prime Video announced it will exclusively stream Karam Gill’s Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby, produced by Quality Films, MGX Creative, and 4PF. The feature-length documentary made its world premiere at the Tribeca Festival on Saturday and was followed by a performance from Lil Baby.

Grammy-winning rapper Lil Baby has been one of the world’s most impactful artists since his first release in 2017. Untrapped tells his story, and details his meteoric rise to become the most dominant name in the rap game. While still a teenager, Baby— known to friends and family as Dominique Armani Jones— was one of the most notorious figures in the streets of West Atlanta, before he was arrested and sent to prison. After his release in 2016, he faced a hard choice: Return to the fast money of the streets, or take a chance that his charisma and untested talent could bring him success as a rapper. In 2020, his second album, My Turn, was the year’s top seller across all genres of music. Today, Lil Baby is a devoted father to his two young boys and a powerful voice in the fight for racial justice and police reform. Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby chronicles the astonishing rise of a singular artist and activist, and explores the systemic oppression that keeps far too many people of color from participating in the American Dream.

Producers of Untrapped: The Story of Lil Baby include Dominique “Lil Baby” Jones, Pierre “P” Thomas, Kevin “Coach K” Lee, Karam Gill, Daniel Malikyar, Andrew Primavera, and Blase Biello.

“I’m blessed to be able to tell my story and have people care to hear it,” said Dominique “Lil Baby” Jones. “This film is a real look into my journey, and if it inspires even one person to believe that they can get through hard stuff and dare to follow a dream, then it was worth every penny spent and hour worked. My story is many people’s story and I’m excited to share it.”

ferocious punk duo DEUX FURIEUSES release their scathing new single: “Bring Down The Government”.

STREAM ON ALL SERVICES HERE || WATCH VIDEO HERE

Crammed with fuzzy riffs and a clamorous punk energy, the duo’s latest single is a searing state-of-the-nation address and a biting critique of those in power. With a pummeling bassline delivered by none-other than Deb Googe of My Bloody Valentine, ‘Bring Down The Government’ fuses frenzied outbursts of feedback-drenched guitars to percussives that twitch and tick like time running out.

Of the message behind the scorching new cut, deux furieuses explain:

“‘Bring Down The Government’ started life as a paranoid riff jam with us jumping on a fuzz box and behind the kit in Vas’s attic to make some noise around the first lockdown. It soon became a musical grenade aimed at the dark heart of Boris Johnson’s Conservative Government which we both felt to be disastrous for the country in its handling of the Covid pandemic. The care home tragedy was a scandal that affected us personally.”

This song isn’t about changing the world. It’s about being in the moment.

“Flawless” was inspired by chillin’ in bed with my person on a Sunday listening to music on repeat. It’s a truly lazy day song, full of smooth easygoing vibes embedded by the vibrant synth chords and gaining additional sparkle from the slow percussion.

The album artwork is a selfie taken at 7am just before I went for a ride on my motorcycle. When I’m riding, nothing else matters. Embrace the present.

Just vibe with me all day,

Jordan Jones
