INsiders Guide: Bedolina, ANT, Ally Venable, Rolie Polie Guacamole, Harrison Lipton…

Bedolina is spearheaded by the Philadelphia-based Ken Gould, who crafts eerie experimental rock that furthers the band’s artistic evolution. Gearing up for the release of their second album Sun and FlamingosBedolina once again enlisted the collaborative efforts of Miner Street Recordings producers Brian McTear and Amy Morrissey (The War on Drugs, Kurt Vile, Sharon van Etten) and engineer Joe Lambert (Thievery Corporation, The Black Crowes, Cracker) Throughout the upcoming LP, themes of surrealism, the ever-lurking future, and modern contradictions are studied in depth, creating a palette of diverse and digestible tracks.

Anthony Davis, AKA Ant, the producer half of the legendary, pioneering hip-hop group Atmosphere, proves once again how irreplaceable he is with the release of Collection of Sounds: Volume 4 (the last installment of the four-part series of instrumentals). This latest release showcases the lifetime of dedication behind his craft, blending his unparalleled skills with a fresh, expanded vision.

With previous volumes in the Collection of Sounds series, Ant has traced his musical evolution, spanning hip-hop, funk, reggae and more, all influenced and inspired by extensive travel dating back to his youth. Volume 4 deepens this exploration, introducing rock-inspired elements—guitars that wail, gnaw, and groove—while maintaining his signature sound.

This is the fourth official solo release by Anthony “Ant” Davis, producer of Atmosphere. His extensive production credits include tracks for artists such as MF DOOM, Brother Ali, Felt, Murs, The Grouch & Eligh, Rav, Sage Francis, Dynospectrum, and the recently announced billy woods record GOLLIWOG

This announcement occurs on the heels of the release of Collections of Sounds: Volume 1, 2 and 3. Volume 3 delves into the rich influences of reggae, dub, and early hip-hop, crafting a vibrant instrumental landscape that pays homage to these foundational genres. Volume 2 features smooth beats, intricate sampling, and lush layers that create an immersive funk-laden atmosphere, where Volume 1 has pockets that are practically begging for rappers to explore. The Collection of Sounds series offers a window into Ant’s creative journey, reflecting his evolution as an artist over the years, drawing from a vast vault of unreleased material.

When he first pondered releasing an instrumental series, Ant figured he might want to make the songs more “intricate” than the ones he gave to his rapper collaborators, filling up the space in the mix that would normally be given over to their vocals. “But then it would be jazz, right?” he says with a loud laugh. “And I’m not that.” Fitting, as Collection of Sounds is not about forgetting who you are—it’s about remembering, reconfiguring, and reimagining, all at once.

The Texas-born and bred guitar shredding powerhouse, and singer/songwriter, Ally Venable is thrilled to share her new song “Unbreakable” ft. Shemekia Copeland. – the latest song to be released off Ally’s highly anticipated forthcoming album, Money & Power, due out on April 18 via Ruf Records.

“This is a powerful duet, and defiant anthem that celebrates the indomitable spirit of women who have weathered life’s storms,” says Ally. “The song paints a vivid portrait of two souls who have both gone through adversity, yet their voices blend in a harmonious tribute to resilience and triumph. I am here to let women know that they can stand tall and face the world with unbreakable courage and strength.”

“Unbreakable” ft. Shemekia Copeland follows the releases of the title track, “Money & Power,” “Keep Me in Mind,” and “Do You Cry.”

Ally has been on the road with the iconic Experience Hendrix tour for the last several weeks and is gearing up to kick off her Money & Power headline tour, in support of the new album on April 12 in Dallas, TX. All news, tickets and additional information can be found at allyvenableband.com.

Holy Guacamole! Brooklyn’s award-winning titans of kindie music are at it again! With skills honed by nearly 20 years of working directly with kids and families, Rolie Polie Guacamole is excited to present the first of two new kindie albums for 2025. The band’s 12th album, On the Stoop, will be released May 23, 2025 on all streaming platforms, on CD, and on vinyl.

Frank Gallo and Andrew Tuzhilin created Rolie Polie Guacamole in 2006 and since then have earned a reputation as one of the hardest-working bands in family music. Their kid-smart, parent-friendly style dresses up original tunes with vibrant harmonies and deft instrumental layers, pushing the parameters of what kindie can be.

Produced by GRAMMY-winning Dean JonesOn the Stoop continues the Rolie Polie Guacamole tradition of catchy, high-energy songs in a variety of styles that hit on favorite kid topics like ghosts, fishing, going outside in the rain, and moongazing. There are bops like “Pickleball” that aim to get kids up and moving, and silly songs like “Traffic” and “Ghost Car,” which completes the RPG trilogy of ghost songs (“Ghost Dog,” “Library Ghost,” and “Ghost Car”), making them one of the spookiest bands in kindie. On the Stoop also includes quirky tunes like the story of Brahms’ (not Bram) Stoker’s Lullaby! The vibe is lighthearted fun, and the music is incredibly addictive.

New York’s triple threat songwriter/producer/artist Harrison Lipton announces his sophomore album Between Us There Runs a Tether will be released on May 7 via Amuse. The news arrives along with title track “Tether” featuring master of the indie-pop earworm, Yot ClubPre-order the album / Stream “Tether”

“This album is a snapshot of my late 20s,” Lipton shares. “Feeling down and out, feeling pressured to find the right person to be with, trying to figure out where to go from here, looking in the rearview mirror and seeing the trailing end of a rope connecting the dots between highs, lows, mistakes, heartbreak, joy. And then at the same time, looking forward and seeing that same rope stretching into the future with all the endless possibilities and realizing that I’m just at one point on that line, because Between Us There Runs a Tether.”

London-based folk/Americana singer-songwriter Merrick Winter announces his evocative sophomore EP, The California Zephyr due out May 9 via Tone Tree Music and available for pre-save now. Alongside the announcement, Winter shares the gripping orchestral version of “The California Zephyr” with Lockeland Strings (Live At British Grove Studiosout now with a matching live video.

On The California Zephyr, Winter paints sonic portraits of love, loss and the human condition through masterful instrumentation and stirring lyricism. Winter shares, ‘The California Zephyr’ is really a travelogue of longing. It’s the feeling that most often yields a song for me. A chronology of bygone eras; a homesickness morphed into fantasy. I find comfort in making that feeling permanent through songs.” Influenced by Randy Newman, Jackson Browne and Tom Waits, the project captures extraordinary accounts of ordinary lives with vignettes of American life, mixed with the memories of the artist’s childhood, leaving for the UK at age 12.

The EP, produced by Matt Zara (Teddy Swims, Lola Young, Niall Horan), Patrick James Fiztroy and Adam Lee, takes its name from the cross-country Amtrak train Winter boarded while writing it, pulling inspiration from conversations with strangers across the U.S.–everyone from an Amish family from Illinois, an ex-Hippie from Berkeley, to a mother and daughter from Tennessee. Throughout the body of work, Winter keenly examines a wide range of topics and emotions while weaving varied sounds together–from grief, to the overturning of Roe v. Wade, to the millennial and Gen Z approach to spiritual connection with meditation apps. Plus, pulling from Buena Vista Social Club and the storytelling of Paul Simon and Ernest Hemingway, Winter taps into the rich culture and Latin music of Cuba in his Flamenco guitar-driven track with Spanish multi-instrumentalist Lau Noah.

The latest addition to the collection is the title track featuring Nashville’s orchestra collective, Lockeland Strings, recorded at London’s British Grove Studios. Owned by Mark Knopfler (Dire Straits), the studio is packed with music history including Beatles-era EMI consoles, one used on Paul McCartney’s Wings records. UK artists Birdy and Katie Gregson-MacLeod also recorded tracks in the studio that day, and a week after recording, Winter performed with them and Union Chapel London. On the unforgettable recording experience, Winter says, “We tracked everything live in about an hour. I played my Gibson ES-340, which I’d just bought in New York, and used a Benson Vinny Reverb in an iso booth. Playing with the orchestra felt like flying—my songs had never sounded so alive.”

This is Charli Lark  – the rising electro-pop artist named in Galore’s “Amazing Artists to Watch This 2025” list. Charli is set to make waves with her new single, “Gold Edge Tongue,” dropping March 7th. Fusing luminous synths, high-energy breakbeats, and razor-sharp lyricism, “Gold Edge Tongue” is a defiant anthem about breaking free from manipulation and reclaiming power.

From Charli: “We wanted it to be weirdly beautiful, and for the viewer to feel a little uncomfortable. Something’s a little off – like when you’re in those situations where someone is manipulating you with their charm. Lulu, our director, captured that feeling. We played with metaphors that reflect the song’s themes: domination, interconnection, the subtle cues we ignore, constriction and freedom, beauty and pain. We worked a lot on developing the presence of the other women in the video – they’re central to the creative expression of the visual. Parts of me coming together to form a whole. And each of us – all of us – are connected through this same experience. Connected, yet trapped.”

GRAMMY Award-nominated Australian artist, producer, and DJ Dom Dolla enlists one of dance music’s most elusive forces, Eli Brown, with the release of the turbo-charged “Dreamin (Feat. Daya) Eli Brown Remix.” The remix officially arrives on Friday, April 11, via Three Six Zero Recordings/Columbia Records. Eli Brown’s high-octane rework infuses the unrelenting, raw energy of techno into the already dynamic soundscape with his signature dark, brooding and subversive style. The single is driven forward by Brown’s thunderous basslines and sinister sound, creating a viscerally addictive remix.

Dom officially debuted the remix during his headlining performance at ULTRA Music Festival Miami during his Everything Always set alongside John Summit. Watch The moment HERE. From Eli Brown: “When “Dreamin” came out I knew I wanted to make a tougher edit for my sets. Dom sent me the parts – it was never intended to be an official remix, but once Dom and I started playing it and saw the reactions, we knew it had to come out. The tune is such an anthem and I’m stoked to unleash it!”

Acclaimed indie-pop duo Tennis has shared “12 Blown Tires,” the latest single from their highly anticipated new album, Face Down In The Garden, arriving via their own Mutually Detrimental label on FridayApril 25. Pre-orders and pre-saves are available now. Produced and recorded by the husband and wife duo of Patrick Riley and Alaina Moore in their Denver, CO home studio, the album and new single will mark the final recordings from this incarnation of Tennis.

“On a cross-country drive at the end of tour, our van and trailer blew four tires in quick succession,” says Alaina Moore. “That particular stretch of highway was a tire graveyard. I counted the shredded remains of twelve tires from where we sat on the side of the road, swapping out our last spare. Our bad luck was heavily contrasted by the good night we’d just had in Houston. The highs and lows of touring are unnatural, disorienting. On the shoulder of I-40, I began writing the lyrics to ’12 Blown Tires.’ It is a constellation of memories from the road, and of our marriage, two endeavors that are completely, hopelessly entangled.

When we recorded ’12 Blown Tires’ a few months later, I had the sense of distilling the past 15 years into four minutes of music. It felt like the end of something, though I wasn’t sure what. Patrick and I spent most of our 20s and all of our 30s focused on Tennis. It has been the most joyous, bewildering, challenging, and humbling experience. After finishing Face Down In The Garden, it became clear that we had said everything we wanted to say and achieved everything we wanted to achieve with our band. This will be our last studio album, at least in this configuration as Tennis. We are ready to pursue other creative projects and to make space in our lives for new things. In that light, the upcoming tour feels more poignant, like a concluding thought. These two kids from Denver who only ever dreamed of playing a few house shows are very fulfilled. Perhaps we’ll see you on the road. As always, thank you.”
