Halsey, who has been expanding her career into the film industry in recent years, has secured her next project. According to a recent report, she will both co-write and star in a provocative horror film described as “psycho-sexual.” The film will also involve a director from The Matrix franchise, adding to its notable creative team.

The project, titled Replacer, will feature Halsey in the lead role. The screenplay is co-written by her fiancé, actor and filmmaker Avan Jogia, who is also set to direct. Deadline reports that independent producer Kyle Mann of Edge is producing the film, alongside Isabelle Deluce of Soft Focus Films and Damiano Tucci of Getaway Entertainment, in collaboration with Anarchists United. Olivier Picard and David Pierrat of Parce Que Films will serve as co-producers.

In addition, Lilly Wachowski will participate as an executive producer, joining a team that includes Anthony Li, Lawrence Mattis, Sarah Flores, Christopher Rentia, Emily McCann Lesser, and Clay Epstein.

The film is preparing for sales at the Cannes market this week, with CAA Media Finance and UTA Independent Film Group handling North American rights. International sales are managed by Film Mode Entertainment. Both Halsey and Jogia are expected to attend the market to support the film’s launch and engage with potential buyers.

Jogia describes the film’s tone as “a bright and electric club horror mashed together with a vulnerable romantic story about belonging and community,” adding, “Come together. Leave as one.”

The official synopsis reads: “Stranded in Montreal, Proxy, a troubled DJ, meets an alluring artist and his group of friends who run an underground radio station. The station’s broadcast becomes warped by a mysterious signal hidden deep beneath the city’s subway system. Proxy must escape before the sound turns her, and her new friends, into something raw, primal, and unrecognizable.”
