Jaden Smith has joined the cast of 4×4: The Event, an upcoming horror thriller directed by Alex Ullom, the filmmaker behind the 2025 psychological horror movie It Ends. The project is being developed by Neon and recently completed principal photography.
According to the film’s official synopsis, 4×4: The Event follows eight contestants who participate in an illegal sensory-assault livestream. Trapped in a deadly game, they must fight to survive by using only items they can order online. The premise puts a dark, modern spin on the survival-game concept popularized by films such as The Hunger Games.
Smith will appear alongside an ensemble cast that includes Sophia Lillis, known for IT, Gretel & Hansel, and All Her Fault; Dylan Minnette of 13 Reasons Why; Marcel Ruiz from One Day at a Time; and Quintessa Swindell, who has appeared in Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma.
The cast also features Maddie Phillips, known for Gen V and Teenage Bounty Hunters; Mitchell Cole, who previously worked with Ullom on It Ends; and Jacob Tremblay, whose credits include Room, Wonder, and Good Boys.
4×4: The Event marks Ullom’s second collaboration with Neon following It Ends. The filmmaker’s debut feature earned attention within the psychological horror genre, and the new project gives him another opportunity to explore unsettling themes through a high-concept premise.
Neon acquired the worldwide rights to 4×4: The Event earlier this year as the distributor continues to expand its film slate. In 2026, the company also presented seven films at the Toronto International Film Festival, including Fjord, the Palme d’Or-winning drama directed by Cristian Mungiu. The film has received strong early reviews ahead of its October 9 theatrical release and currently holds a 90% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Adam Hendricks, Greg Gilreath, Osgood Perkins, Chris Ferguson, Haley Johnson, and Evan Barber are producing 4×4: The Event. Ben Ross, Jakob Pollack, Rami Yasin, Simmy Wolf, Jesse Savath, and Marlaina Mah are executive producing.
Despite completing production, 4×4: The Event does not yet have an official release date or release window. More details about the film’s theatrical rollout and streaming plans are expected to be announced later.
