Apple TV has unveiled the first look at Brothers, a new comedy starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. The series marks the pair’s latest on-screen reunion following their acclaimed collaboration in True Detective.
According to Vanity Fair, McConaughey and Harrelson will play fictionalized versions of themselves in the eight-episode series. The first-look images capture the longtime friends sharing plenty of playful moments, while another image shows the two actors facing each other with a noticeably more intense expression.
For fans of McConaughey and Harrelson, Brothers offers a welcome dose of nostalgia. The actors previously worked together on several projects, but their most memorable collaboration remains HBO’s True Detective. Harrelson portrayed Detective Marty Hart, while McConaughey played Detective Rust Cohle. Their complex partnership and memorable chemistry became one of the highlights of the first season.
Brothers takes inspiration from a fascinating piece of real-life history involving the two stars. The comedy follows the actors as they spend time at McConaughey’s ranch in Austin, where they uncover a shocking possibility: they may actually be half-brothers.
As Woody begins investigating the family mystery, Matthew faces a very different challenge involving a potential run for Governor of Texas. The series promises to blend friendship, family, fame and the blurred boundary between reality and fiction in a chaotic and comedic story.
The premise also echoes a revelation Harrelson shared in 2023, when he said that his father had been involved in a relationship with McConaughey’s mother. The revelation raised the possibility that the two longtime Hollywood friends could be related in real life.
Alongside McConaughey and Harrelson, the cast includes Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, Noah Carganilla, Highdee Kuan and Oona Yaffe.
Brothers is set to premiere on Apple TV on September 23, 2026.
