HBO has released the latest trailer for JAY-Z’s upcoming docuseries, JAŸ-Z in 8, while also confirming the series’ official premiere date and revealing additional production details.
The HBO Original series is set to premiere on Friday, September 18, 2026, on HBO and HBO Max. The cable premiere will begin at 8:00 PM ET, with the first two episodes airing back-to-back. HBO Max subscribers will also be able to stream both premiere episodes starting at 8:00 PM ET.
The eight-part series marks a reflective look at JAY-Z’s remarkable career, bringing the rapper together with longtime friend, producer, and director Rick Rubin for an intimate conversation about his music, life, and creative journey.
According to the official synopsis, the series takes place 30 years after the release of JAY-Z’s landmark debut album, Reasonable Doubt. JAY-Z and Rubin revisit his extensive catalog together, listening to songs while discussing the experiences, influences, and inspirations that helped shape both the artist and the person behind the music.
The series will feature some of JAY-Z’s most recognizable tracks alongside deeper cuts from his discography, including “99 Problems,” “Brooklyn’s Finest,” and “4:44.”
Through its eight episodes, JAŸ-Z in 8 promises an intimate portrait of one of hip-hop’s most influential figures, exploring his evolution as an artist as well as his work beyond music as an entrepreneur and philanthropist.
With JAY-Z reflecting on three decades of music alongside Rick Rubin, the HBO series offers fans a rare opportunity to hear the stories and perspectives behind some of his most significant work.
