Fox has unveiled the first full-length trailer for its upcoming Baywatch reboot, bringing the iconic lifeguard franchise back to television with a new generation of beachside heroes. Led by Arrow star Stephen Amell, the series promises high-stakes rescues, familiar red swimsuits and the slow-motion beach runs that made the original a global phenomenon.
However, longtime fans have another reason to pay attention. The new trailer features a subtle nod to David Hasselhoff’s legendary character, Mitch Buchannon, sparking speculation that the original Baywatch star could make a surprise appearance.
Stephen Amell Leads a New Generation of Baywatch Lifeguards
The upcoming series sees Amell take on the role of Hobie Buchannon, the son of Hasselhoff’s Mitch. Now leading his own team of lifeguards, Hobie must navigate the dangers of the job while dealing with an unexpected development in his personal life.
The trailer opens with a dramatic rescue after a plane collides with paragliders over the ocean, leaving holidaymakers in danger. Hobie and his team spring into action, delivering the high-energy sequences and beachside spectacle that have long been synonymous with the franchise.
The story also introduces Charlie Vale, played by Jessica Belkin, Hobie’s long-lost biological daughter. Arriving with hopes of becoming a lifeguard, Charlie is determined to follow in her father’s footsteps despite their estranged relationship. However, Hobie is reluctant to let her enter such a dangerous profession, setting up a central family conflict for the series.
Could David Hasselhoff Return?
While the reboot introduces a largely new cast, its connection to the original series has already generated excitement among longtime viewers.
Hasselhoff’s portrayal of Mitch Buchannon remains one of the most recognisable parts of Baywatch, making the possibility of his return an enticing prospect. The trailer’s nod to the original character has fuelled hopes that the actor could reprise his iconic role.
At this stage, however, Hasselhoff has not been confirmed to appear in the new series. Whether the Easter egg is simply a tribute to the show’s history or a hint at a potential cameo remains to be seen.
The reboot will also feature the return of original cast member David Chokachi as Cody Madison. Now running the Shoreline bar and grill, Cody continues to lend a hand as a lifeguard, providing another link between the original series and its new incarnation.
The ensemble cast includes Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, Brooks Nader and Olivia Dunne. Rapper Megan Thee Stallion will also appear as herself.
When Does the Baywatch Reboot Premiere?
Originally running for 11 seasons between 1991 and 2001, Baywatch became an international television sensation, celebrated for its action-packed rescues, dramatic storylines and unmistakable beachside aesthetic.
The new series aims to capture that nostalgic appeal while establishing its own identity for a modern audience. Amell has acknowledged that the reboot cannot simply recreate the original, with the creative team looking to balance the franchise’s familiar elements with a fresh direction.
The Baywatch reboot is scheduled to premiere on Fox in January 2027. In Australia, the series will stream exclusively on Stan from January 2027.
With a new team of lifeguards, a family drama at its centre and the possibility of a Hasselhoff appearance still hanging in the air, the upcoming series looks set to bring the iconic franchise back into the spotlight.
