Katherine Waterston (The Agency, The Uprising) has joined the cast of Paramount+’s upcoming limited series The Best of Us, starring opposite Jeremy Strong. Currently filming in New York City, the six-episode drama is inspired by the landmark legal battle that secured justice and nearly $1 billion in compensation for 9/11 first responders who became seriously ill after working at Ground Zero.
Waterston will portray Amy Smith, a lawyer who is also the soon-to-be ex-wife of Jason Smith, played by Strong.
Created by Tobias Lindholm and Frank Pugliese, The Best of Us chronicles a nearly decade-long legal fight that challenged powerful institutions and sought accountability for the devastating health consequences faced by emergency workers following the September 11 attacks. The series explores the political maneuvering, greed, corruption, and betrayal surrounding the case, while highlighting the extraordinary courage and solidarity of the first responders who risked their lives during the World Trade Center collapse.
Strong leads the series as Jason Smith, a prominent class-action attorney who puts everything on the line to pursue justice for those affected by the tragedy.
The previously announced cast includes Barry Pepper as Coach, a former NYPD officer and 9/11 first responder battling leukemia linked to his work at Ground Zero, and Andrea Riseborough as Molly, his devoted and resilient wife. Neal Huff plays Peter Allen, Jason’s pragmatic colleague at the law firm, while Gaby Hoffmann portrays Kathleen McCormick, a veteran FDNY firefighter and activist.
The cast also features Sky Yang as The Lost Son, a young and enigmatic homeless man, and John Slattery as James Leavitt, a seasoned and formidable defense attorney.
Guest stars include LaChanze, Richard Schiff, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Joe Morton, Jen Tullock, William Baldwin, and Keith W. Richards.
The Best of Us is produced by Paramount Television Studios and Sister. Lindholm serves as writer, director, and executive producer, while Pugliese also writes and executive produces the series. Strong and Tony Hernandez round out the executive-producing team.
