Netflix has released the official trailer for Steps, an upcoming animated musical fantasy comedy that puts a new spin on the classic Cinderella story. Rather than focusing solely on the beloved princess, the film shifts the spotlight to her so-called “evil” stepsisters, exploring their side of the story through a magical adventure filled with comedy, action and unexpected twists.
Directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, Steps features an impressive voice cast led by Ali Wong as Lilith, Stephanie Hsu as Margot and Amanda Seyfried as Cinderella. The ensemble also includes Daniel Radcliffe, Bette Midler, Nikki Glaser, Peter Dinklage, Young Mazino and Damian Priest.
The newly released trailer introduces viewers to Lilith and Margot, two sisters who have grown tired of living in Cinderella’s shadow. Hoping to turn their fortunes around, Lilith steals the Fairy Godmother’s magical wand, setting off a chain of events that throws the kingdom into chaos. Their attempt to take control of the Royal Ball goes disastrously wrong when Margot is transformed into a frog, while the scheming Priscilla seizes the opportunity to take the throne.
With the kingdom facing a new threat, Lilith must put aside her resentment and work alongside Cinderella to save her sister and restore order. Their journey takes them through dangerous forests and into confrontations with menacing henchmen and biker trolls, transforming the familiar fairy tale into a much bigger adventure.
The film also challenges the traditional division between heroes and villains, asking audiences to reconsider the characters they thought they knew. At its heart, Steps explores sisterhood, belonging and the idea that everyone deserves the chance to find their own happily-ever-after.
Amy Poehler, Jane Hartwell and Kim Lessing produce the animated feature, which also features new music from BLACKPINK’s Jennie, alongside contributions from Rose Gray, EMEI and Amanda Seyfried. Academy Award-winning composer Kris Bowers provides the film’s score.
Steps is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix on November 20, 2026, offering audiences a fresh and irreverent take on one of the world’s most enduring fairy tales.
