Tim Allen and Kat Dennings have exciting news for fans of Shifting Gears, as the hit ABC sitcom is officially set to return for Season 3 in January 2027.
The cast and crew recently came together to announce the highly anticipated premiere date in a video shared online. In the clip, Allen gathers his fellow cast members, enthusiastically calling everyone over before revealing that the show’s third season finally has an official return date.
The announcement confirmed that Shifting Gears Season 3 will premiere on Wednesday, January 6, 2027, at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. The new season will begin with a special two-episode premiere.
The comedy series stars Allen as Matt Parker, a widowed and strong-willed owner of a classic car restoration business. His carefully managed life takes an unexpected turn when his estranged daughter, Riley (Kat Dennings), moves back into his home with her two children following her divorce.
Season 3 will pick up after the dramatic events of the previous season’s finale, which saw Matt and his former partner, Eve (Jenna Elfman), unexpectedly set off on a trip to Barcelona together. Their impulsive getaway left viewers wondering what the future holds for their relationship, and the upcoming season is expected to explore their evolving connection.
Alongside Allen and Dennings, several familiar faces are expected to return, including Seann William Scott as Gabriel, a technician at Matt’s shop who has feelings for Riley; Daryl “Chill” Mitchell as Stitch, the shop’s upholstery specialist; Maxwell Simkins as Carter, Riley’s son; and Barrett Margolis as Georgia, Riley’s daughter.
One of the biggest highlights of the upcoming season is a special reunion for Kat Dennings. Beth Behrs, who previously starred alongside Dennings in 2 Broke Girls, will make a guest appearance as Dr. Johnson, an emergency room physician who treats Riley after she suffers a back injury.
