INsiders Guide : MASUMI, Lauren Duski, Fiona Grey, MAWD

Lauren Duski: This country singer recently released her debut single “Costume Party”, and recently became a household name since her appearance on NBC’s The Voice appearing on Season 12 as runner up. Her single has already garnered favorable reviews from Billboard that wrote “Her Truest and most emotionally raw self”, and TIME that praised Duski stating “Duski Is just getting started making her mark in music.”

“Costume Party” taken off and has inspired her fans to make their own videos sharing their stories and vulnerability. Once Duski noticed how much impact the song had with her fans, she wanted to combine all the videos together to make her touching music video. Duski spoke of it saying  “The letters from my fans really inspired me to say something this vulnerable in a
song. People shared stories and vulnerability that I could’ve never imagined. So it only felt right to have them all join me in the video. ‘Costume Party’ is for them.” The single has only been out for a month but in that time it’s debuted at 15 on the US country charts, and has amassed over 120,000 streams on Spotify. Big thing are expected for Duski and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.

MASUMI: Japanese singer-songwriter MASUMI has a powerful new single called “Run Baby, Run”, which tells the true and inspiring story of the songstress. She worked with film-maker Loic Zimmermann (Ghost in The Shell, Guardians of the Galaxy, Harry Potter) to make this story come to life in an artful way. “‘Run Baby, Run” was inspired by a dark time in MASUMI’s life. The song aims to awaken the warrior within each of us to overcome the fear. She spoke of the single saying “In 2016, I received a life changing offer to be managed by a prestigious management team in Tokyo, Japan. I decided to walk away from this career-defining moment and chose to remain in the states to explore possibilities that were more aligned with the artist I wanted to grow into. But that brought a long depression and self doubt. I was confused if I made the right choice. A stranger popped in my life during that time and left me a message to “live with urgency” because “time is running out”.  It was my 2nd awakening since the earthquake”.

Fiona Grey: She found success opening for pop artist and one of my fave female singers Charli XCX, and now this vocal sensation is releasing her brand new track “Dirty Dream”. This upbeat dance anthem tells the story of how people have tenancies to fall in and out of love. Drawing inspiration from Hollywood, Grey hopes her music will inspire people to be more true and honest versions of themselves. “There is a lot about living in a pop culture centered world that we deem as ‘normal behavior’. I hope that the music can remind the listener that this follower-centric, alternate persona universe we live in is all temporary happiness,” reveals the songstress who is known for her dynamic glittery performances” Grey said.

With an up coming EP on the way entitled “Cult Classics”, you can be sure there will be more powerful and epic visualizations from the artist. She has already been given high praise with the likes of Galore Magazine calling her “the Elizabeth Taylor of the modern pop music industry”. Be sure to have yourself captivated by Grey’s amazing music below.

MAWD: The infectious rock sound of Californian artist MAWD is causing a buzz in the music industry, and now she has a gritty rock song entitled “Wandering Eye” making her the newest one to watch. She’s being compared to the likes of Janis Joplin, and her sound is inspired by The Head and the Heart, The Staves, First Aid Kit, Nancy Sinatra, Lord Huron, and the Alabama Shakes. Her genre is quite diverse and combines an eclectic mix of indie rock, folk, folk rock, retro rock, and blues rock. Born Madeleine Mathews, she made her mark in her hometown of Placerville, playing original songs at an open mic night. She blossomed once she fronted and wrote for various bands and winning local singer-songwriting competitions, which resulted in TV and radio appearances. Now MAWD is quickly becoming the next force in folk music that’s going to take the charts by storm.
