John Krasinski Returning To Direct ‘A Quiet Place 2’

Paramount is making some noise for the sequel to the horror sensation that was “A Quiet Place”. The studio is in talks with Emily Blunt and kid stars Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe to reprise their roles of the family fighting for survival in a world full of noise targeting creatures. John Krasinski directed and starred in the original, is set to direct the sequel, which will go into production before the Summer. Simmonds and Jupe are said to be under option, meaning that, when their initial deals were made, the studio reserved them for any possible follow-ups. The movie cost $17 million dollars to make and grossed a huge $340 million dollars at the box office.

John Krasinski has unveiled the US release date for the sequel which he calls Part II, confirming the film franchise is returning on 15 May 2020. In previous interviews, Krasinski has called this film a “continuation” of the franchise, as opposed to a direct sequel — expanding the world and adding new characters and perspectives.

The brilliance of “A Quiet Place” was largely due to it’s originality of a near dialogue-less screenplay where sound was the motivating fear factor. The movie is Oscar-nominated for Ethan Van der Ryn and Erik Aadahl’s sound editing work. The original feature left off with Emily Blunt’s protagonist, Evelyn Abbott, rifle-in-hand, ready to take down the aliens swarming her farm where she and her kids had taken refuge. This film had to be the best film of 2018, and I can’t wait to see what the sequel brings.
