INsiders Guide: Jamie Adam, Mathew V, Sydney Cope, Riley Smith and Kuri

Jamie Adam is a bedroom producer who unwittingly recorded his debut album in a series of late night, sleep-deprived sessions during his college years. The twenty-something electronic artist created his music using an iPad, some synthesizers and a guitar lying around his flat. He honed his craft alone, in the dead of night when the rest of the world was sleeping. Adam embraces his nights, when his mind sparks with ideas of what can be and should be, as well as those moments when one finds themselves alone in the early hours – after the afterparty. It’s more than appropriate then that the new single from his album is entitled ‘Nocturnal’; where he declares, “we are the creatures of the night”.

‘Nocturnal’ is an exhilarating track that twists and turns in unexpected directions. It combines reverb-laden vocals and guitar with a purring bassline, before the chorus swoops in with a swirling ambience that really packs a punch. The track has a summer feel to it and Adam’s self-confessed love for Tame Impala is evident, with hints of other acts like Animal Collective and MGMT in there too. The result is a sound that is unapologetically weird, trippy, even tempestuous at times – made in the night by a man who was bleary-eyed but clear minded.

This is one artist you want on your radar.

“Channelling nostalgia, fun, and playful energy, I wanted my new single – “Catching Feelings” – to be a song people can listen to when they are thinking of their high school crush! 😍” said Matthew V talking of his brand new single . He went on to describe the song in more detail stating;
“I knew I wanted something fun, cheeky and playful with this track. I had wanted to work with Ryan Stewart (Multi Platinum, Juno Award Winning Producer/Songwriter) for ages, and this was the first song we did together. It really became our love-child, and now we’re proud parents releasing it to the world… what a modern family — love that for us!”

Sydney Cope‘s debut single, “Watch Out For Me,” is the confidence revenge track we’ve all been waiting for. The Dallas, Texas native has been working on her unique sound since she first started performing at 8 years old. Over the years, she focused on developing herself as an artist, mastering the guitar, piano, and studying vocals and songwriting. Inspired by artists like Justin Timberlake and Ariana Grande, Cope’s music has found a sound that stands at the intersection of radio-ready pop melodies, deeply introspective songwriting, and soulful urban stylings.

Her debut, “Watch Out For Me” is a booming melodic pop track that hits hard with thumping percussion and hypnotic synths. The bold arrangement, all attitude, and sass, pulses beneath Cope’s vocals, layering the entire sound with a fighters edge. It’s a not-so-subtle warning to the one that did her wrong, and you can sense the culmination of suspicion, exposure, and punishment bubbling to the surface in the banging alarm-bell of a chorus. Whether it’s her commanding presence or impeccable vocal timing; it’s instantly clear Cope can fend for herself. Sydney Cope’s, “Watch Out For Me” is a powerhouse pop record with an effervescent R&B flavor that begs to be heard again and again.

Riley Smith who has gained fame starring in some of the biggest shows to grace our television screens (Nashville, Life Sentence, True Blood) is back with a new single ‘Earthquake’. Co-written with Brad Irby and Kevin Leach (who has previously worked with a wide array of major label acts and respected indie artists) the song is set to follow the success of Smith’s previous releases.

Kuri is back with the visuals for ‘Sort Sol’. The cinematic folk tune features sweeping acoustic guitars, Irish laced fiddles and harmony rich soundscapes. Reminiscent of Sigur Rós meets Fleet Foxes, ‘Sort Sol’ combines earthy traditional folk and chamber pop for a stunning release. ‘Sort Sol’ is off of Kuri’s debut album coming June 7th.
