INsiders Guide: Olivia Wik, A Brilliant Lie, ONUR and Zander Hawley

Canadian singer-songwriter Olivia Wik has already penned over 300 songs, but now she takes the forefront of her musical journey with the latest single, “When I Was Drunk”. On the single Olivia says; “When I Was Drunk” is the kind of song you dance alone in your room to when you’re feeling down. The kind of song you sing along to at the top of your lungs when it comes on in the car. I wrote this new track with Tino Zolfo and Todd Wright, and it was produced by the incredible duo Towers. It couldn’t have been a more wonderful/stress-free experience! From beginning to end, we allowed ourselves to have fun with it”.

Emily Parr directed the music video for “When I Was Drunk.” On working with Parr Olivia said; “She’s an amazing artist, photographer, and designer who has such an eye for ethereal aesthetic. I knew she was the one to capture my song’s sense of dreamy drunkennessOur visions were completely aligned the whole way through. In each meeting I had with Emily, up until the video shoot day, we would bring ideas to each other and just respond with, “Amazing! Love it!” The process was so collaborative and fun; the entire set was one big glitter party”.

A Brilliant Lie, an explosively-energetic alternative rock band from Orlando, FL unveil their new release, “Unwoven” from there EP “Threads: Weaver”. The band are touring relentlessly across the US and working alongside reputable producer, James Paul Wisner (Paramore, Underoath, Hands like Houses), on their collection of EPs. The quintet is currently endorsed by Paul Reed Smith Guitars, Ernie Ball, Strymon Engineering, Seymour Duncan, and Intune Guitar Picks and appeared at this year’s NAMM convention.

Singer/songwriter/producer ONUR is proud to unveil his first music video for his new single “Beautiful Time”. The r&b track is a groovy, epicurean ode to the present and compares his childhood as the unpopular kid from Turkish descent with his now-fulfilling and joyful life as an emerging artist. “I was always a very unpopular kid at school. I never really got invited out to all the parties and I was never the flagship boy, he remembers. Being of a different ethnic background, in a very white middle class school, meant I stood out, which was hard for me to deal with. This song tells a tale of the impact of people’s actions on my emotions during my school life, but at the same time, also exclaiming the realisation that present times are beautiful, different and I’m here to enjoy them.” Directed by rising filmmaker Jasper-Cable Alexander, the Beautiful Time visuals have been shot in Bristol with the help of a few friends and a camcorder. “We wanted to capture the DIY aesthetic of everything we were doing while having a good time, in the most authentic way possible, explains ONUR who co-produced the song with LJ, also appearing on screen. We threw an actual party and all the daytime shots are just us on our way to the shops to buy things for the party. I wanted it to be very spontaneous and natural, hence why most things in the video just look quite casual. These are just real, normal people enjoying life!”

Beautiful Time is featured on ONUR’s new EP “A Millennial Rhapsody”. The project follows his trilogy of singles released last year. Beamin’Stunnah and I Don’t Know Why I Fall in Love all received a very warm welcome, garnering interest from the industry (from labels to established artists such as Martin Garrix) as well as respected local and international media outlets. EARMILK, Konbini, Cosmopolitan, Lost Culture, KRCW, Reprezent Radio, Acid Stag, Conversations About Her, Pause Musicale and many more have all raved about his bold and innovative songs.

Los Angeles, singer songwriter, Zander Hawley is thrilled to release his new single “Forest Fire.” Zander says, “’Forest Fire’ is about Coachella (or, trying to keep hold of yourself when everyone else is loudly seeming to be doing better) + the moment in the timeline of knowing someone that you realize that the nature of the relationship is maybe never going to change.”

Zander began his career with the band Honeywater, and the band’s eponymous EP (which he wrote, co-produced, and performed) hit number 7 on the iTunes Folk chart and was reviewed by Mic.com as “four tracks of folk gold.” His first single as a solo artist, “Hid in the Little Things,” was featured on the Fox television show The Following and his debut EP “I Wish I Was” received praise for its “mature sound…heartfelt lyrical delivery….and production” (AU Review). Following the release of his EP, Zander was hailed as one of the “best young voices in Nashville” by Cause A Scene. His debut LP, “When I Get Blue” released May 12, 2017, and was reviewed as “an avalanche of feeling” (Atwood Magazine) and “acutely self-aware” (Noisey). In 2018, his single “When You See My Heart” premiered on Ones To Watch and he went on tour supporting The Naked and Famous. He likes dancing and the X-Men.
