INsiders Guide: Just A Gent, The Eisenhauers, Hughes, Mokina, Julian Daniel…

Australian producer/DJ Just A Gent is making his debut on HypnoVizion with a brand new single ‘Freak Of Nature’ out now.

Teetering on the experimental edge, ‘Freak Of Nature’ is unpredictable and complex. Flashes of melody cut through the chaos, creating a sharp contrast between vulnerability and volatility. The track moves through moments of glitch-heavy rhythms into cinematic builds, with a mechanical ad lib threading its off-kilter 3 minutes. It’s an introspective yet turbulent listen that evolves through distorted and textured sound design while showcasing the depth of Just A Gent’s artistic ingenuity.

“‘Freak Of Nature’ is a tune created while reflecting on how insane evolution is and how far we’ve come as a species. We’re all freaks in one way or another and this is me expressing my weirder side.” – Just A Gent

Acclaimed BC folk-roots duo The Eisenhauers are proud to announce their long-awaited new album, Back Burner, set for release on September 12th, 2025. Today, they offer a first glimpse of what’s to come with the release of the evocative lead single, Gambler,” available now on all major streaming platforms via Black Hen Music

Produced by Steve Dawson (Matt Anderson, Birds of Chicago), “Gambler” was written by Sheree Eisenhauer during a tough season in her marriage with bandmate/husband Jeremy – about risking everything for love. Recorded live at Vancouver’s Warehouse Studio with a full band who hadn’t heard the songs before, it captures raw, one-take energy and features backing vocals by Vancouver singer-songwriter Jill Barber

“Writing ‘Gambler’ was like holding up a mirror to everything I was afraid to admit,” says Sheree. “It came from a place of real vulnerability – the kind you don’t always want to share, even with yourself. Recording it live, with musicians who were hearing it for the first time, gave it this unfiltered urgency that matched exactly how it felt to write it. It was terrifying and cathartic all at once.”

Yellowknife musician Benji Straker has released the debut self-titled album from his indie folk project Hughes, now available on all streaming platforms. Alongside the album, Hughes shares a new single, The Cabin, a moving collaboration with fellow Yellowknife artist Shea Alain (Rueben and the Dark, Sub Islands, Maazes).

Tracked entirely at Straker’s home studio in Yellowknife – affectionately named The Penalty Box – Hughes is a heartfelt collection of songs that spans more than a decade of songwriting. Originally a solo project, Hughes evolved into a full band in late 2024, bringing new life to Straker’s compositions with rich textures of pedal steel, keys, percussion, and synth. Two reimagined singles, “Despite the Distance” and “Idaho,” also appear on the album in newly recorded versions.

Hughes is a collection of songs that span over a decade – some written in the last couple of years, others reaching back more than ten. Each track is rooted in personal experiences – love, nostalgia, loss, and the deep connections we form with people and the land,” says Straker. “Over the past year, Hughes has grown from a solo singer-songwriter project into a full band, and that evolution shaped the sound of this album. At its core, this album is about family, friendship, and the places that shape us – I think there’s something in it that any listener can connect with.

Mokina returns with an acoustic reimagining of her latest EP ‘mirage’.

It’s Mirage, reworked for golden hour. The EP’s title track ‘mirage’ premiered earlier this week on Under The Radar mag, who described it as ‘a swirl of silky melody and sun-kissed guitar lines.’

Julian Daniel is an emerging indie-pop artist hailing from Maple, Ontario. These days he divides his time between Toronto and LA working full time on his music. His blend of meaningful lyrics with upbeat instrumentals, offers a fresh fusion of indie pop and rock, drawing inspiration from artists like Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, and Gus Dapperton.

Julian’s journey began in grade school with violin, guitar, and vocal lessons, later finding his path as an artist inspired by watching MuchMusic after school. Since his debut in 2019, he has released over 20 songs, including the viral track “Lemontree,” which earned attention from The Chainsmokers. His music often explores coming-of-age themes, love, and dirty secrets, and his songwriting process focuses on creating vivid, cinematic visuals through sound.

With a growing discography and a passion for storytelling, Julian strives to push boundaries, crafting music that at turns is both nostalgic and modern, creating a world within his sound that’s uniquely his own. Julian’s live shows bring his charismatic and flamboyant presence to the stage, elevating him into a “bigger-than-life” version of himself as he captivates audiences. He’s performed at notable venues like The Great Hall in Toronto and The Peppermint Club in Los Angeles, and continues to build his profile as a proudly Canadian artist.

Singer-songwriter, keyboardist, and brewmaster Kyle Hollingsworth is thrilled to share “Colorado,” the second single from his forthcoming solo album All We Are, set for release on August 1, 2025 via SCI Fidelity Records–Pre-save the new project now.

Over four and a half minutes, the track unfolds with the expansiveness of an endless clear blue sky and the rolling, vast Rocky Mountains. With full, rich instrumentation, Hollingsworth takes a moment to appreciate his surroundings on a sunny day, from vibrant green trees to crisp Colorado air to the abundant wildflowers. Reflecting on the inspiration behind the track, Hollingsworth shares: “I spend a lot of time in the high country, so all the images come from above 9,000 feet. From the fall colors to the sparkling snow and spring flowers, these mountains fill my spirit.”

Emerging LA/London-based artist Beverly Hell returns with her spellbinding new single Guinevere, a dark, cinematic journey steeped in myth, emotion, and experimental sound. Following her latest track Persephone, Beverly continues to explore themes drawn from mythology and history, channeling raw emotion through a powerful vocal performance and a uniquely atmospheric production style.

A gut-punch-heart-squeeze feeling—that’s what comes to mind when describing the sound of indie-pop artist, goodheart.

From early on, goodheart was writing songs and translating her world into sound. During university, she began to produce and perform her songs alongside friends in Toronto, and went on to receive Factor’s Artist Development grant in 2022 and Ontario Art Council’s grant in 2024. She has since garnered over 55k streams on Spotify and over 145k views on YouTube. Her sound has been described as “an abundance of beautiful pop licks, heart-beating rolling drums and soaring vocals all wrapped up in an immaculate production” (podcart).

As goodheart fell in love with producing, she started to realize the little representation women have as producers. Growing up an avid music listener, she didn’t see many women who actively produced their own songs, along with writing them. Believing that song writing is a cathartic approach to fleshing out feelings, but that it’s producing that gives the song shape, goodheart strives to be known as a singer, songwriter and producer – capturing honesty and heart through fresh and familiar sounds.

Chicago-based duo Teknicoz have teamed up with female emcee Farrah Fawx for a brand new single ‘Never Basic’ out now as part of the Dirtybird’s 20th anniversary.

Anthemic from the jump, ‘Never Basic’ is a swagger-heavy cut that will instantly turn heads on the dancefloor. The track bounces into action with thick basslines, edgy percussion, and a saucy vocal performance from Farrah Fawx that leave no room for subtlety. Her sass-laced flow slices through Teknicoz’s thumping production, resulting in a track that’s built to blow out speakers and expectations alike.
