INsiders Guide: Nyxy Nyx, Summerbruise, Emily Popli, MyVeronica and Friend’s House, Atmosphere…

Philadelphia cult favorites Nyxy Nyx have announced their first proper studio record, Cult Classics Vol. 1due out September 12, 2025, via Julia’s War Recordings. The sonically dense album plays out over its sprawling 42-minute runtime, with world-tilting lead single “In Haze” acting as a first taste for what the band has in store—the song twinkles and trudges on slowly through drones of guitar and delicate ripples of melancholy vocals.

PRE-ORDER CULT CLASSICS VOL. 1

A prolific member of the Philly DIY scene, Nyxy Nyx began in 2014 as a performance art project, slowly morphing into a legendary scene go-to and gaining a cult following along the East Coast. Earlier this year, they shared a standalone single, “the cauldron” and full-length project Real Life, adding to their ever-changing, eclectic discography.

Your favorite Indianapolis-based “fake emo” band, Summerbruise, has just announced their new full-length record, Infinity Guise. The news follows their official signing to SideOneDummy Records earlier this summer. It’s set for release on September 19th. Along with the news, they released a new single “VAN” featuring Carpool’s lead singer Stoph Colasanto

singer-songwriter Emily Popli releases her new single,“Alight.” Available on most streaming platforms today, the track is a powerful duet featuring the prolific vocals of Matt Giraud.

Written from the perspective of a partner struggling to make ends meet in their relationship, “Alight” carries out an emotional mantra that packs a punch. The soulful vocals of Emily Popli and Matt Giraud accompanied by the melodic electric guitar give the track a passionate feeling. With production styles mixing pop, folk and soul, the vocals of Emily Popli can be compared to those of Kacey Musgraves or Adele. Overall, “Alight” holds out hope for clearer waters ahead, as Emily Popli insists that the flames in her relationship will never burn out.

MyVeronica and Friend’s House are excited to announce their split EP Farewell Skylinesavailable everywhere August 8, 2025. Out today is “Sacred Heart” by MyVeronica, which sees the band strip things back to cherish the love they have, before the song explodes into emotional catharsis.

“Sacred Heart is a practice of vulnerability, both musical and emotional,” bandleader of MyVeronica, Mia Lin explains. “The use of clean tones and sparse arrangements cultivates an honesty that is beautiful and painfully raw. Moments of calm are interrupted tby screaming guitars, echoing the volatile nature of life. This song is an expression of love, a reminder to hold on to the things that matter most. A reminder to choose love, even if it hurts.”

Atmosphere, the genre defining hip-hop duo of Slug & Ant, have announced their new album Jestures, due out September 19th via Rhymesayers Entertainment. Alongside the announcement they’ve shared singles “Velour” & “Really,” which comes paired with a music video directed by Melby. In the video, Slug pulls back the curtain on a series of dare devil stunts, landing somewhere between John Wick, The Rehearsal, and Jackass.

“We were having fun” shares Sean Daley aka Slug, “we didn’t want to stop. That’s how we ended up chasing this idea of making 26 songs, all the way from A to Z.”

“I was able to throw the kitchen sink at it more than I probably ever did, seriously every kind of style or anything I wanted,” adds Anthony Davis aka Ant, “It was super fun to be able to do any kind of style of music.”

A little less than a quarter of the way through Jestures, Atmosphere’s sprawling, acrobatic new album, Slug cuts right to the beating heart of this phase in the legendary duo’s catalog: “Still get nightmares when you’re living your dreams,” he raps. The cliches about creativity say that it comes from chaos—the rock star archetypes forged in the 1970s conjure images of coke spoons and trashed hotel rooms, and more recent thinking makes it inextricable from major trauma. Jestures, which is already Atmosphere’s fifth release of the 2020s, challenges that notion. This remarkably productive period has seen Slug burrow into every crevice of middle-aged stability and domestic life for its unexpected points of friction. With Jestures, this exploration has yielded its most fascinating results to date.

The first thing you notice about Jestures is its shape. Not only does it feature an eye-popping 26 songs, but those songs are arranged alphabetically by their titles: “Asshole” into “Baby” into “Caddy,” and so on. Even the lineup of guests conforms to this, with Evidence on “Effortless,” Kurious on “Kilowatts,” and a trio of heavy hitters—Musab, Muja Messiah, and Mike the Martyr—on “Mash,” among others. Both the sequencing of tracks and their sheer number are bits of misdirection. Many songs on Jestures last just long enough to fully articulate their core ideas; the crop of 26 is arranged in such a way so as to be musically intuitive and a comprehensive survey of one man’s life as he pauses to take stock.

Jestures is an album not about being stuck, but about the relentless forward progress of time. “Don’t mistake my circle as the shape of repetition,” Slug raps on opener “Asshole,” underlining how central this pursuit has become. This manifests in the mundane—those rent or mortgage payments come no matter what’s happened in the 30 days since; the fridge needs to stay full—and when it comes to life’s bigger, more abstract anxieties. If, as he raps on “Daley,” Slug wants “to skip ahead to read the end of the story,” he’s out of luck.

What exists in place of that certainty that will never come is the joy of discovery. Little things you never noticed about your partner, tics your kids pick up when you aren’t looking. All of this is laid over a lush, varied set of beats from the illustrious Ant, ranging from the controlled electro-chaos of “Furthermore” to the heavy droning of “Past,” the playful drum cascade of “XXX” to the cowboy-outlaw twang of “Locusts.” Early on the title track, Slug quips that while he has both an angel and a devil on his shoulders, “all they really want is exposure.” It’s funny, but it’s also the core ethos of Jestures. On a long enough timeline, all the overdue credit card bills or lovers’ quarrels simply become the things that shape you in the present—and point you, better prepared, toward the future.

After collab projects with Statik Selektah and AraabMUZIK for his Benny The Butcher executive-produced Black Soprano Family debut album, Zombie, which featured appearances from Benny The Butcher, Conway The Machine, 38 Spesh and Rome Streetz, rising Philly emcee OT The Real, is back and he brought 38 Spesh with him.

While OT recently co-starred alongside Amanda Seyfried in the Peacock Original Series Long Bright River and appeared on Benny The Butcher’s Summertime Butch 2 project (“Gold Plated Leica”), his collaboration with 38 SPesh feels long overdue.

With Possession With Intent, OT gets the best of both worlds, as Spesh not only contributes vocals, but also produced the entirety of the project; as Spesh reminds everyone how nice he is on the production side.

Possession With Intent also features guest appearances from Dave East, Grafh, Flee Lord & Amir Ali.

Today, OT & Spesh released a new video for “Never Saw Me,” which you can view below.  They also released a live version of project cut “18 Ballgames,” which OT taped live at the LRG (Lifted Research Group) studios in LA, CA.

OT The Real & 38 Spesh’s Possession With Intent will be released on 8.1.25.

Kenyan-Italian artist Tanasha Donna shares her latest single “FIRE” distributed via UnitedMasters, out today. Marking her most personal and powerful release to date, the Afro-house anthem blends Swahili-English lyricism, hypnotic rhythms, and raw feminine energy. Known for her captivating voice, refined aesthetic, and emotionally honest storytelling, Tanasha embodies modern femininity — powerful, poised, and purpose-driven. “FIRE” is more than just a track, it’s a statement of empowerment, cultural pride, and emotional freedom.

The honeyed voice of pen-to-paper genuineness, Alice Phoebe Lou, today announces that her sixth album Oblivion will be released on October 24 via Nettwerk Music Group. A personal library of previously unheard music, the upcoming record is a stripped back look into Lou’s exploration both globally and internally, her first album since 2023’s Shelter — Pre-save

She shares, “After five band records, I’ve opened my treasure chest of personal storytelling songs that I’ve built up over a decade. Songs that didn’t make it into other albums, some songs I never thought would see the light of day. I embarked on the brave and thrilling journey of recording these songs as they are, with love and playfulness, simple and all my own. Leaning into imperfection and taking inspiration from some of my biggest influences who have made timeless folk acoustic albums.”

Along with the news of the upcoming album, today also sees the release of the new, self-confident single “Pretender.” Commending herself for finding strength in her softness and never compromising on who she is, even when it would be easier to be someone else, Lou is seeing her authenticity pay off. Even if that’s something that her fans have championed in her writing all along, this is the moment where she can feel it in her own heart.

Lou describes the single as, “A loving ode to my younger self — reflecting on who I am and how hard I’ve worked to love her. The way I once used confidence as a shield to mask my insecurities has transformed into allowing my walls to come down as I can finally bask in who I am without the fear of being seen.”

Italian producer, DJ, tastemaker, and industry Renaissance man DJ Tennis returns to his Life and Death label for a milestone release, a new single with UK sensation and chart-topper Eliza Rose. Titled “Playa Paradiso,” the track is a love-bombing scorcher, built for open-air sunsets and dewy, early morning revelry. Out now, the release also marks a turning point for Life and Death as a label.

With a new distribution deal inked with Above Board for Life and Death and a vault of unreleased music, DJ Tennis is stepping further into the spotlight as a producer. After years of shaping artists and scenes from behind the curtain – the punk tour manager-turned-underground figurehead is trained as a sound engineer, hosts a culinary show (Munchietown), has owned his own restaurant, and even collaborated with Teile Elektronik on a surreal multi-effects music bot – he’s now channeling his singular creative perspective into his most intentional music yet.

Eliza Rose is the voice of dance music’s modern hits, with recent collaborations with superstars Calvin Harris and The Martinez Brothers. Straddling the underground and pop with style and bite, she has delivered vinyl-only sets blending House and UKG, while also becoming the first female DJ to chart at #1 in the UK in 20 years. With “Playa Paradiso,” she continues her run as one of club music’s most magnetic vocalists – playful, soulful, and ready to catch your eye on a sweltering dance floor.

Dance music powerhouse GRYFFIN, rising producer LAVERN, and electro-pop duo AR/CO have teamed up for a new collaborative single ‘Higher Power’ out now via 10K Projects.

Instantly mesmerizing with its sun-streaked momentum, ‘Higher Power’ takes flight with AR/CO’s hazy topline and breezy verses before soaring into a chorus of angelic sentiments and deep low-end grooves. Elevated by empowering lyricism and kinetic rhythm, the track shimmers with a late-night aura that feels both nostalgic and propulsive. Rooted in emotional lift and textured sound design, it’s a natural meeting point for GRYFFIN’s melodic finesse, LAVERN’s sleek style, and AR/CO’s transcendent songwriting.

“‘Higher Power’ is a new take/sound for me that feels so authentically GRYFFIN. I can’t decide if it’s AR/CO’s amazing vocals that feel so representative of my history of songs or if the melodic and raw production just unintentionally became what I didn’t know would be a 2025 song of mine. This record and new friendship with LAVERN surprised me which as an artist is one of the most exciting things that can happen. Feels like the summer banger I needed but never planned for.” – GRYFFIN

“I got to know GRYFFIN after I did a couple of shows with him in the US and we connected on a musical level. We jumped into the studio together not long after and it just clicked. Releasing a track with someone like GRYFFIN is special for me and I’m really proud of the end result. I can’t wait for everyone to hear this one!” – LAVERN
